Alleged papyrus on Jesus having a wife

Post by DRDS »

Hey everyone, for the past couple of days, this has been a big topic on facebook, and I was curious as to what you all think. Here is the article that it all stems from.

It was debunked last year I think.
It would be a blessing if they missed the cairns and got lost on the way back. Or if
the Thing on the ice got them tonight.

Correct Neo :)
And on top of that its a gnostic writing which automatically puts its historicity as late and very poor compared to the gospel accounts.

Another sensationalist news piece to hype up the pseudo skeptics for a fe weeks before they come back down to earth .

As I have stated before, IF Jesus had a wife it would NOT have been viewed as a big deal and there would have been no reason to hide that fact.

A papyrus fragment that mentions Jesus's wife is likely ancient, probably dating between the sixth and ninth century, latest research shows.

When Karen L. King, the Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School, announced the fragment's existence in September 2012, there was a widespread debate over its authenticity. The fragment, known as the "Gospel of Jesus’s Wife," probably originated from Egypt. It's written in Coptic and contains the phrase "Jesus said to them, 'my wife...,'" never before seen in any ancient text. It also mentions Jesus's mother and a female disciple, who may be identified as "Mary."
Oy! Jesus lived in and the Gospels were written in the First Century. Further, the Gospels were written in Greek - not Coptic - because that was the universal language understood throughout the Roman Empire. For the sake of historical perspective, Mohamed lived in the 7th Century, so the Qur'an may be older than this papyrus fragment; IOW, it has slightly more credibility than a Dan Brown novel.

It's an archaeological curiosity whose significance is how weird some corners of the church had gotten 5-8 centuries after Jesus lived and the books of the New Testament were written. Not that reality will in any way affect people's "itching ears".

Even if it were not a forgery, the earliest they are dating it is to 7th century. Yeah, a very reliable, contemporaneous gospel.

It's hillarious how desperate the pseudo skeptic anti historian conspiracy theorists want to try to debunk Christianity.
Why are they fighting so hard against the truth???
Foolish is the only word that comes to mind here.

Because they want to prove to themselves there is no hell?
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

Technically, isn't the Church Christ's betrothed? Not yet married?
