It seems everybody wants to explain why it doesn't mean what it says.

In addition, the disciple John also saw "the Son of Man coming in his kingdom" and described what he saw (and much more) in the Book of Revelation. Re Matthew 17 and the relevant passages in the Book of Revelation, note that Jesus said "see", not "live until" "the Son of Man coming in his kingdom". IOW, the verse means what it says - for Peter James and John, in Matthew 17, as Rick pointed out, and later for John in what he recorded in Revelation. In nearly 60 years among Evangelical Christians I've not met one of those "everybody"s, u777. Maybe I travel in the "wrong" circles?

Rick has you going in the right direction. After you read the next few verses, go and read 1 Pet 1:16-18.

Going by the English language, the text could mean that they will die after they have seen the Son in His kingdom. Example Steven the martyr. ?

you do realize that this thread is dead since april? I haven't seen ultimate around for sometime now.
