My Problem With Militant Atheism

Post by YoungApolegist »

It seems that atheism isn't what it used to be. Instead of just a position held by people where they don't believe in a god, atheism is now calling religious people "delusional, homophobic, and idiotic," along with the mission to eradicate religion and to persecute and chastise anyone with religious belief. Atheists these days dedicate their entire lives to insulting a god they don't believe in, even if it means putting it above their moral and ethical beliefs. I know not all atheists are like this, but a good portion of them are. I always remember when Jesus said: "If the world hates you, remember that it has hated me first."
" I think it is not only out of God's wisdom but also out of his love that he leaves in mystery what he leaves in mystery. If I had more knowledge I could be heartbroken. Thus we live in hope.
And then, maybe, when standing at the Heaven's gate, I will throw myself into his arms and weep everything out. With him, we can handle that." - 1over137

Quite right. The position of the new atheism isn't an intellectual one. It is, as far as they see it, a moral one. And that means if you disagree with them, it's not just that you are wrong or mistaken. The theist is now immoral. And the way to respond to immoral, bigoted, evil people isn't with rational argument, but rather with mockery and social ostracization. My honest advice to you is to ignore them. Prov. 26:4. It's not that we can't respond to them. It's that their position is so intellectually vapid and so morally backwards that it ranks up there with eugenics, flat earth theories, 9/11 truthers.

With that said, I cannot tell you how highly I would recommend you read this book:

I require my students to read it. It's worth every second you invest in it, I promise.
Proinsias wrote:I don't think you are hearing me. Preference for ice cream is a moral issue
And that, brothers and sisters, is the kind of foolishness you get people who insist on denying biblical theism. A good illustration of any as the length people will go to avoid acknowledging basic truths.

I find 9/11 "truthers" an oxymoron.

They are as bad as the Fake Moon Landing conspiracy theorists
