I would venture to say that we all suffer from tunnel vision insofar as getting-to-know the other on these forums. Actually I did care, and its not because of her avatar. I thought we had started on the wrong foot and considering that Mel was new here, I was hoping she would get to know us better, and I am glad she saw that too.

Some of my good friends here are people whom I have never seen, and that was true even before I saw Hana's picture, she can attest to it I am sure. Same goes for you, Dan, Mallz, Ivel, Danny, Paul, Bippy, reactionary, and then some more.

I think people are more than their photos and their ideas.

The Bible is quite clear in that you either are, or are not, a Christian. There are no half measures, you either are on the narrow path or you are on the wide path that leads to destruction. Moreover, once on the narrow path, you cannot get off. In other words, once saved, your salvation is secure.

The only time I question someone's Christianity is when they make a comment along these lines: ''I used to be a Christian but after looking into it, I've decided to become an atheist/Buddhist/what-have-youist. Such people were never saved in the first place, therefore, not Christian in the biblical sense.

I read Silvertusks post a little while back regarding his crisis of faith before I read any of the subsequent messages and I admired his bravery in being so open and honest. We all stumble at times, in different ways and at different times in our walk with The Lord. The fact that he reached out and asked for prayer and guidance, speaks volumes of his spirituality. We as followers of our Saviour have to band together and offer a soft and safe place to fall, free of judgment when one of us stumbles, for when they regain their footing they will be stronger and wiser in their faith, and when it is our turn to stumble they will help lift us up with their new strength and wisdom.

I agree. In his subsequent messages, Silver revealed that he had not been reading the Bible. When he started getting over his crisis, he bought a new Bible and started reading it again. The worst thing a Christian can do is to not get daily spiritual food from the Word, and I suspect the second-worst thing is to give up prayer. From where did Silver's crisis come from? My guess is from Silver's own negligence. All of us are in danger of falling into the same trap.

If you look at the example Jesus gave us, what did he do? He prayed often, and he certainly was intimately familiar with the Word. These, the Word and prayer, are what is needed for the spiritual nourishment of the Christian. Stop reading the Word and you quickly stop praying; spiritual starvation ensues, like it or not. But you'll still be compassionate, tolerant, loving and all those other nice things.

Now, did Jesus have empathy? sometimes, yes. Compassion? often! Tolerance? never! Love? always; Understanding? of course.

Tolerance isn't a Christian value, by the way. It is a secular value.

We are taught by Jesus that the two most importance laws to live by are love The Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul and secondly to love your neighbour as yourself. Jesus said do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I know that I most definitely want others to treat me with empathy, compassion, love, gentleness, patience and understanding.
God is LOVE and what stems from love in its most purest, righteous form? Compassion, empathy, patience, gentleness and understanding.
As for tolerance I get what your saying, we don't want a secular judge to treat a murderer or rapist with tolerance but with righteous wrath within the law, this is also the same with Our Father our spiritual judge.
