Question about Jude
If the genealogies in Genesis are telescoped, then why does the book of Jude say Enoch is the seventh from Adam?

Do you not realize this poses a difficulty for YEC?
------------Years Lived - Birth next Generation
Adam ------- 930 ------------ 130
Seth --------- 912 ---------- --105
Enosh ------- 905------------- 90
Kehan --------910-------------70
Mahalalel -----830------------ 65
Jared ---------962-------------162
Enoch --------365-------------- 65
Methuselah---987 -------------180
Lamach-------795--------------182
Noah----------950-------------500---note Flood occurred when 600 years old
Anyone see it?

Re: Question about Jude
I think the OP was concerned that Jude states that Enoch was the 7th from Adam and the lineage implies the 6th.B. W. wrote:PaulSacramento wrote:7th generation from Adam.

My post was addressing that issue that really isn't one because Jude is NOT writing about Enoch being the 7th inline from Adam but about him being the 7th generation from Adam.

Re: Question about Jude
What's the difference between being the seventh and being the seventh generation from Adam? How does that make the genealogies telescoped?PaulSacramento wrote:7th generation from Adam.

Re: Question about Jude
The difference is Adam is a generation, so:Annonymus wrote:What's the difference between being the seventh and being the seventh generation from Adam? How does that make the genealogies telescoped?PaulSacramento wrote:7th generation from Adam.
Adam - 1st generation
Seth - 1st from Adam, 2nd generation
Enosh - 2nd from Adam, 3rd gen.
Kehan - 3rd and 4th
Mahalalel - 4th and 5th
Jared - 5th and 6th
Enoch- 6th and 7th.

Basically, Jude's counting was inclusive of Adam.

Okay, but then how to do Old Earth Creationists argue that the genealogies have gaps in them?PaulSacramento wrote:Basically, Jude's counting was inclusive of Adam.

Re: Question about Jude
I've heard Old Earth Creationists argue that the Genesis Genealogies contain gaps in them, thus and older Earth is possible. But how is that the case if there's only 7 generations from Adam to Enoch? Please answer.PaulSacramento wrote:Not sure what one has to do with the other...Annonymus wrote:Okay, but then how to do Old Earth Creationists argue that the genealogies have gaps in them?PaulSacramento wrote:Basically, Jude's counting was inclusive of Adam.

The genealogies apply to the time of Adam from when he was expelled from the Garden in Eden, from His first born.Annonymus wrote:I've heard Old Earth Creationists argue that the Genesis Genealogies contain gaps in them, thus and older Earth is possible. But it's been proven that humans have been around for longer than 6,000 years.PaulSacramento wrote:The genealogies apply to the time of Adam from when he was expelled from the Garden in Eden, from His first born.Annonymus wrote:I've heard Old Earth Creationists argue that the Genesis Genealogies contain gaps in them, thus and older Earth is possible. No but notice this:Annonymus wrote:Okay, but then how to do Old Earth Creationists argue that the genealogies have gaps in them?PaulSacramento wrote:Basically, Jude's counting was inclusive of Adam.
Take in the overlap of generations from Adam to Noah, you have how many years from Adam to the Flood?...Moses was born in Egypt on the 7th of Adar of the year 2368 from creation (1393 BCE)…

Not sure how long MODERN humans have been proven to be around but YES it is more than 6000 years, BUT realize that 6000 years is not how long humans have been around but how long Adam and Eve were out of the Garden of Eden, we have no idea how long they were in the Garden for.
