Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
The gospel itself matters not nearly as much as the reactions that it produces in those who listen. Some hear that you must find a way at all cost to be your enemies friend, and this thought clearly has Earth and relationship building implications. However others hear nothing more, than, the Earth was built 5,000 years ago. So it is not the gospel, that matters, but he hand that we extend, that matters.Kurieuo wrote:It can be said in different ways, but there is definitely a common thread.TheQuestor wrote:The gospel, seems to mean whatever someone wants it to mean..................Christian2 wrote:We know that "gospel" means good news.

Does it mean it is ok to kill people? to rape and pillage? to hate?
Of course not.
That the gospel can be expressed in different ways and has different parts that speak more to some people than others is perfectly normal.
The focus of the Gospel is Jesus and what He has done and continues to do for Us.
Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
The gospel announces the new covenant God created to reconcile humanity back through Him to Him Jesus Christ. That's the gospel!

Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
So in this God announced that his previous works, were flawed? Why would God need a new, anything, when the first was perfect?Mallz wrote:The gospel announces the new covenant God created to reconcile humanity back through Him to Him Jesus Christ. That's the gospel!
Just seems redundant, to me, that's all.
Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
The first covenant was through the law. In order to fulfill the law a judiciary atonement was necessary, which was Christ taking the sins of the world away; Christ came and conquered sin. We do not go to hell for our sins, but for our unbelief. His previous works were not flawed, nor did He ever announce as such. His previous works were fulfilled with the new.So in this God announced that his previous works, were flawed? Why would God need a new, anything, when the first was perfect?

What makes you think 'the first was perfect'. What do you mean by this?

Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
The Law was needed to POINT OUT what was wrong, what was SIN and to show that man HIMSELF could NOT save Himself.
Without the Law and mans continuous unsuccessful attempts to keep it and "be good", man would not understand why Christ was NEEDED.
The Law and the prophets pointed the way to Christ and in HIM, they were fulfilled because there was NO WAY that Man could fulfill them himself.

You have just expressed your thoughts and questions. Thus, I say again that the gospel seems to mean whatever one wants it to mean. Your meaning seems to be, "Does it mean it is ok to kill people? to rape and pillage? to hate?PaulSacramento wrote:That's justs silly.TheQuestor wrote:The gospel, seems to mean whatever someone wants it to mean..................Christian2 wrote:We know that "gospel" means good news.

My answer can not be wrong, as you have confirmed it, with your meaning.
Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
Questor, that is not what PS is saying
He was making a point that the gospel is objective and not relative, among another point he was making. ^_^

Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
Can you really look to the world, and say that Christ came and conquered sin? In reality, since there are far more sinners now, than 2000 years ago, there is far more sin, and more ways to hate. You could say that Christ purpose, was to conquer sin and hate, but to say that he succeeded, is illogical.Mallz wrote:The first covenant was through the law. What makes you think 'the first was perfect'. What do you mean by this?
Actually, we are part of Gods first work, and we are perfect, and by the evolution that God gave to our frames, we become more perfect with every generation, as we use our minds to look, for our creator. Will we know him, if we see him? or as it is said, are we already built in his image?
Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
You misunderstand. Can you really look to the world, and say that Christ came and conquered sin? In reality, since there are far more sinners now, than 2000 years ago, there is far more sin, and more ways to hate. You could say that Christ purpose, was to conquer sin and hate, but to say that he succeeded, is illogical.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 (NKJV)
55 “O Death, where is your sting?[a]
O Hades, where is your victory?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Actually, we are part of Gods first work, and we are perfect, and by the evolution that God gave to our frames, we become more perfect with every generation, as we use our minds to look, for our creator. Will we know him, if we see him? or as it is said, are we already built in his image?
How are we perfect? We are sinners. And as you accurately point out: 'In reality, since there are far more sinners now, than 2000 years ago, there is far more sin, and more ways to hate'
How do we become more perfect when we become more sinful?
We are built as the image of God, but we are in a corrupted state, and sinful and worthy of destruction. It is only Gods love and grace for us that lets us have life, through our God Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who came in the flesh and died for the sins of the world.
Do you agree with the underlined?

I showed it it can't.
The Gospel can NOT mean what it IS NOT.
No amount of wanting by anyone can make the Gospel mean something it isn't.

Anyone can read the gospel, and interpret it as they see fit, and they do, or is there an iron fist that demands that all people believe the same things, in the same way?PaulSacramento wrote:You said the gospel can mean ANYTHING someone wants it to mean.TheQuestor wrote:You have just expressed your thoughts and questions. If we are the product, of God, then we are perfect, we can only try to understand what God did, and how, but since we are built in his image, then we have his power, and must learn to use it wisely, and continue to learn. As for the underlined, Jesus died at the hands of the ignorant and the scared, he died as brutal a death as could be imagined. Were any sins, redeemed at his death? did sinning stop? did killing stop? did hate end? who was saved?

Re: Exactly what is the Gospel?
Yes, anyone can interpret the bible anyway they like IN LIGHT of what it actually says.TheQuestor wrote:

If someone reads the Gospel and says it means that it is ok to commit adultery or to kill or steal, they would be 100% wrong because it does NOT SAY anything like that at all.
You can only believe in the Gospel if you believe the Gospel and there is only one Gospel no matter how many different ways the SAME THING is said, it is still the same thing (Gospel).
