We did this experiment at school, quite a cool experiment. But this doesn't change the fact that water will always boil at 100 deg C, can we change the parameters and lower the boiling point of water, yes we can, but this doesn't change the fact that water once it reaches 100 deg C will always boil.Audie wrote:I can boil water that has ice cubes in it.PaulSacramento wrote:Are you suggesting that water boils at another temperature?I invite you to try boiling water at 100C. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.Amen.

But we can change the parameters to change the 'fact' that once it reaches 100ºC it will always boil, we can boil water at a lower atmospheric pressure than sea level, making tea in the Netherlands would suffice without taking into account the rest of the known universe.Danieltwotwenty wrote:We did this experiment at school, quite a cool experiment. Yes I understand what your saying Pro but water will always boil at a specific temp depending on conditions, I think that is the point Paul was making. It will always boil at a certain point according to the given parameters, if the parameters change then it will always boil at whatever that temperature according to the parametersis. It remains a constant and consistent fact no matter what, well at least I think it does.Proinsias wrote:But we can change the parameters to change the 'fact' that once it reaches 100ºC it will always boil, we can boil water at a lower atmospheric pressure than sea level, making tea in the Netherlands would suffice without taking into account the rest of the known universe.Danieltwotwenty wrote:We did this experiment at school, quite a cool experiment. I can also show you water at 150C that is not boiling.Danieltwotwenty wrote:We did this experiment at school, quite a cool experiment. The point here is that we've proved beyond anything resembling a reasonable doubt
that under a very precise set of circumstances pure H2O will boil at 100 C.
The generalized gas laws based on many such observations are likewise proved beyond reasonable doubt.
The theory of evolution has also been proved beyond reasonable doubt.
I think that latter observation should bring something out. Lets see.

And under precise reasonable doubt???
Evolution has been proved.
Under the same premise of reasonable doubt perhaps proves God also

Re: Why the Bible is true...
Some parts of the bible are pretty wild fiction, some is dreary as ditch water, there is nice poetry, and a bit of history. Its quite a mixture, no so easily made into a simple either / or.Philip wrote:This is aimed at no one in particular: But it always amazes me the wide range of complex things - or ANYthing - that people think can come into existence without a cause. As common sense tells you that somewhere, somehow, EVERY thing sprang from some prior thing and process. So whatever came first, HAD to exist forever, uncaused, and and possesses astounding intelligence, power and ability. At the end of the day, once this is realized, you have only TWO choices of how to respond to this: You can either deny it - and thus abandon basic reason itself - OR you can just refuse to deal with it and attempt to convince yourself that the questions surrounding our origins are likely a) forever unknowable and b) likely irrelevant - and that if you never sincerely seek their answers, it really doesn't matter. Either way would be just fine - IF the Bible is just another book of wildly inventive fiction. But if it's not...
Among my observations concerning religious folks is that they are so often absolutist, binary thinkers.
Either black or white, no shades of grey. No third, 4th, 5th possibilities. Straight either / or.
In this case, it is agree I'm right, accept that I've got the keys to the basic nature or reality, or abandon all pretense of sanity.
Quite the humility there.

Why not teach kids how to think?Danieltwotwenty wrote:
What indoctrinate people with truth?
Dont you suppose that most all conscientiously good religious parents have taught
their trusting children about their faith, planted it deep, early and strong, never to be lost?
What percent, in the history of the world, do you suppose got lucky and were indoctrinated into the one true religion?
Assuming the number is greater than zero.
