So, design...by your test-Alexander was made up? No historian made note of him when he was alive. It took five centuries for anyone to write about him. And, what if I could show you several historians who did not write much on Hitler and WWII...could I argue effectively that it did not in fact happen, and the Muslims are right when they say that the Jews made up the Holocaust?

An atheist can't find God for the same reason a criminal can't find a police officer.

You need to start asking out girls so that you can get used to the rejections.

Of coarse I knew it was biased. All articles are biased...especially those concerning religion.

starting to see that
Church tradition tells us that when John, son of Zebadee and brother of James was an old man, his disciples would carry him to church in their arms.
He would simply say, “Little children, love one another”
After a time his disciples wearied at always hearing these same words and asked “Master why do you always say this?
He replied, “it is the Lords command, and if done, it is enough”

Would it affect society if Alexander were made up? no But what do people argue the most over, religion. There are religious activists groups trying to incorporate their beliefs into law. Presidents who think it's appropriate to bash other religions publicly. (and yes I'm talking about Bush) If alexander was suddenly wiped out of history, no one would care other than a few confused historians. However, when it comes to a religious figure it's a completely different ball park.

On a side note: Even denominations fight with each other over the true way to interpret the bible. If one Chrisitian says that it's all truth and the other calls it allegory, someone is wrong. Don't you see a problem here? It is rather convenient to say that a Christian can simply interpret the Bible in their own way. But I guess it's not okay if someone of another religion interprets it differently than your own interpretation. I really don't think religion should be an issue, they all teach the same moral lessons. Don't lie, don't steal, don't murder. Of coarse, you really don't need religion to know these things are wrong.

By your logic all religions are right....each religion has it's own concept of the "holy spirit"

First off, the stupiditiy-all religions do not teach the same thing. And, fine, interpret the Bible incorrectly, don't take into account figures of speech that you are guilty of using everyday, don't take into account the history behind books in the Bible. There are RIGHT ways, and there are WRONG ways, to interpret the Bible-ways that are consistent with the Bible, and ways that run into problems...and if you feel that you are right by reading a few verses in ignorance and saying you're right, go ahead. And my analogy with Alexander still holds-you didn't do anything to change it or refute it.

Uh, yes there are secular sources that mention Jesus.
The Romans changed there entire calender based upon the existence of this man.

I know that Chrsitianity is right because I know Jesus. His spirit is where all the good in my life comes from, and I feel him in my life. I think that the concrete answer that you seek doesn't exist. It must be accepted on faith as turth, or it is simply another possibility amongst many.

LV_Designs,

There are some good resources on this site. Here are a few areas that may help narrow down your choices.

1.) The universe had a beginning. It is not cyclical. That fact alone eliminates just about all eastern religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, etc.).

2.) Most other religions are clearly based on myth, (Native American tales, etc.) For ex. The world being created on the back of a giant turtle.

3.) The few remaining religions teach about gods confined to their own creation (paganism and it's may offshoots), or based on imaginary places and people that never existed (Mormonism).

After all is said and done, by the process of elimination, there aren't many choices left. The Bible alone makes historical observations that can be tested and are true. The one thing that we do know is that Jesus body is no longer in the place where it was buried. The question you have to ask yourself is why?

PS. Most religions are also man-centered, teaching that man has the ability to obtain some type of divinity or enlightenment. What the Bible has to say about the condition of man is something that man would not make up.
"To suppose that whatever God requireth of us that we have power of ourselves to do, is to make the cross and grace of Jesus Christ of none effect." - JOHN OWEN
