Re: Moods
I just get so angry sometimes, it used to be with God, now its with myself.
Is this the beginning of true repentance?
I feel so vulnerable, so niave but so loved.
I dont want to drink.
I will not drink.
One day.

If getting angry with ourselves when we let ourselves down, is the beginning of repentance, I've been stuck at the beginning for years.Storyteller wrote:I just get so angry sometimes, it used to be with God, now its with myself.

Re: Moods
Feelings are, frequently, HIGHLY misleading indications of the actual reality of things. But everyone - men and women - need to occasionally, honestly and APPROPRIATELY vent them. But when that door to the "wonderful world of feelings" is swung wide open - particularly when they are unrestrained and swell into raw emotion, it never appears to lead to anything good. That is what I can't handle. Men try to be problem solvers - they want to identify the problem and do whatever they can to quickly and efficiently neutralize whatever is the cause. But pure feelings are like this scary, metaphysical beast that obeys no laws of rhyme or reason - making most men feel completely helpless. Yep, I get it: often my wife just wants me to listen (often in great detail) about how she feels about something that is upsetting her. So, I try to be a good and patient listener - all the while I'm mentally brainstorming a practical solution. And so after she has stopped venting, I respond with my thoughts on what she or we might do to remedy the source of her anxiety. But, so often, that does not have the intended effect. And if she ever CRIES - I have a very hard time appropriately responding. However, I know that some of our key traits (both men and women) are God-given. I try to remember that.
