Why did Jesus tell his disciples to carry swords?

I think so. She should've grabbed her broom, aimed it at the tyke, and yelled, "PEW, PEW". Like the sound of laser guns in Star Wars.

But seriously, what kind of crazy gun laws do you kiwis have, that allow a 12 year old to have a gun permit?
LOL oh rick..
wasnt it you that posted that article about another 12.year old defending herself with a
gun and saying it was a good thing? To which kurieuo gave the same sorta response as you just did here?

of course there was no permit

No permit?!?!? Then how'd he get the gun? See where I'm going with this yet?

I think the law said that she was within the law, to use her parent's gun to defend herself in her own home. So, she didn't need a permit.

Let me get this straight...you're comparing a 12 year old girl, in her own home, shooting an intruder, WITH a drunk 12 year old boy, robbing a store with a gun he stole?

I most certainly am comparing the two. Both kids.

What if the girl shot her baby brother instead? She was darn lucky. And I could cross the road with my eyes closed and not get hit by anything..I would be darn lucky too.

Darn lucky means darn lucky and that is no case for promoting personal gun use with intruders

Where did you read that a baby brother was there? Or even if she has a baby brother?

My point I was trying to make, is that even if someone doesn't have a gun permit, he can get his hands on a gun illegally, if he wants to commit a crime. 12 year old drunk, lolly bagger, case in point.

And, how do you know the 12 yo girl wasn't trained to use a gun? Like I said, the gun culture in certain states here, is in the culture from a young age.

I hope you're not suggesting that the girl made a mistake by using a gun to defend herself. :shakehead:

I meant she was darn lucky it had a 'good' outcome...or what you would consider good....the baby brother was a hypothetical..its a fact people
do alot more harm protecting themselves with guns than good.

You Cant beat them, join them? Make it safer? Is that your point?

Apparently the man that she shot, had abducted a 17 year old girl before. Still think it was a bad choice for her to shoot him?

The 12 year old might have been trained to use a gun? She shouldnt be using a gun full stop in this circumstance. Training..how to point and shoot? Theres alot more to the training than getting your aim right

taking the law into your own hands is dangerous - using guns.
you are equating 'good' outcomes to justify using guns for protection..

the door swings both ways...its not just about good or bad outcomes.

You are trying to justify a child using a gun on someone
- 12.year old.

Actually, in this case, she said it was the first time she ever shot a gun. Kept her from being abducted, apparently.

Maybe she should've thrown a bible at him instead? Maybe sprayed him with holy water? Or just asked nicely not to abduct her?

Maybe you're right. What a stupid idea for her to use a gun. Maybe she could've made a new friend.

Nessa,

You're really not getting it, are you? There's a reason why the law allows people to shoot home invaders.

I don't need to justify her using a gun. The law justified her. She did nothing wrong. She had a gun at home, just for an instance like this.

You really don't get it, do you?

And in the bigger picture...

Kids who can access their parents firearms go to the shops demanding kandy.
Kids accidentally shoot themselves, their parents and siblings playing around with a gun they can access.
People go shooting other people, including kids in schools.

In the bigger picture,
if guns weren't a constitutional right and everyone didn't have them,
then there would be much fewer deaths.

What would have protected that girl just as equally is having a baby sitter.
A more responsible parent. While it was great she was able to defend herself alone at home at such a young age, and great that her Mum left a gun around that she could access, did noone ask other alarming questions?

BUT, it was good in this instance she could access a gun and shoot the guy.
I'd be surprised if there were not valid instances, but nonetheless in the bigger picture thousands are dying...
