For every action there is a reaction. Remove prayer and bible reading, take the ten commandments down off of Public school walls, etc in the early 1960's and fill their heads with socialism and only evolution and it eventually produces these kinds of people who think coveting is no big deal and believe it is the governments responsibility to take care of their every wish like everything is free.We have products of the state and they vote. This is one reason politics is a joke.It would take ten bible believing Christians in a row to turn things around and start heading in the right direction again.I'll believe it when I see it.
Hebrews 12:2-3 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2nd Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of this glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God,should shine unto them.

I was half joking with what I said.

Nevertheless,

The ignorance of the student bothers me. She has no idea what she's promoting. She's living in la la land.

I suppose, but still, doesn't she have a point? College has become a requirement for getting a decent job, but the job market isn't what it used to be and tuition has gone through the roof. That means that a lot of American kids are college educated, deeply in debt, and stuck living with their parents and working 2-3 low-paying jobs to cover their student loans. Is it unreasonable for her to want the same opportunities and security that were available to her parents and grandparents? And is it unreasonable for her to expect the grow-ups to figure out how to provide it?

Ed,

What I'm talking about is her idea that the richest 1% should pay for other peoples' college debt.

You make a choice to spend tens of thousands of dollars, with no guarantee that you'll get any job from it, then go in debt, and just expect others to bail you out? What kind of mindset is that? It's ridiculous.

Make the rich oppressors pay for our bad choices. Nobody forced them to go into debt. Nobody held a gun to their heads, and made them go to college.

Make stupid, irresponsible decisions, and you need to deal with the consequences.

Getting a face tattoo is a stupid, irresponsible decision. Going to college in the United States of America is supposed to be the first step on the path to the American Dream.

Also, I'm not sure you're considering how 1% of our population having half of the nations wealth impacts the rest of us. For example, remember when the housing bubble burst and a ton of people lost their homes? That's only the first part of the story. Part two is when the top 1%, who are rich enough to be immune to trivialities like global economic collapses, buy up the best of those lost properties for pennies on the dollar, and then sell them back to the middle class for a huge profit. And there you have it - a huge pile of wealth moves directly from the American middle class to the top 1%.

So considering that it was the rich bankers and Wall Street crooks who caused the collapse (after pocketing a huge pile of money), then got bailed out with our tax money (money that that kid and her kids will be paying interest on for years), then used their wealth to, then used their wealth to take advantage of the chaos and make a lot more money, is it unreasonable for her to feel like they should kick more into the community chest?

I haven`t seen the video (no sound) so I am only going by what has been posted here. Am I right in thinking that this girl wants the rich to pay off her student debts?

We have a lot of kids fresh out of college here, with respectable degrees, who are working stacking shelves because there are no other jobs, they are heavily in debt and struggling, all because they wanted to get a good education and make something of their lives. They studied hard, got good grades and all they have to show for it is a huge debt and often working one or more pretty grim jobs to pay for it.

Why should college just be for the rich?

She wants her tuition paid for by the richest 1% of Americans. And she wants ALL tuition paid for, by them as well.

She said that a 50% tax rate isn't enough. The 1% needs to be taxed however much is necessary, for "free" tuition to all students.

It's one thing to advocate for a way to make college affordable. Clearly, at least in America, tuition costs are way too high.

But, it's completely delusional to first think there's such a thing as "free" college, and second, think that there won't be severe repercussions if rich people are forced to pay close to 100% of their income in taxes.

The girl seems like she has a good heart. She looks like she means well. She's just not living in reality.

Storyteller,

Watch the video when you get a chance. You'll see. In the meantime, maybe you can get your mean employer to get with the times, and get you a computer with sound. Or at least get a smartphone.

Um...no.

That's not how Santa's lists work.*

Two lists. One naughty, one nice.

*I worked in a prison work release program in the North Pole, one summer.
