Sounds like you are making the same point I did; someone can choose not to believe by refusing to see evidence that supports the opposing position. But once they allow themselves to see the evidence, if they find the evidence convincing, they will have no choice but to believe. Aren't we saying the same thing?Kurieuo wrote:Not necessarily Kenny, though it perhaps hinges on "convincing".
The heart is extremely important. If someone is closed to evidence, or their heart is anti the truth of something, they don't want to hear it or the like, then they'll follow their heart. That happens on both sides, with all people.

Atheists: Does anything detract you from Christianity?
Does this mean you could just as easily choose NOT to believe?Storyteller wrote:Convincing evidence?Kenny wrote:I can choose to avoid the evidence that I might find convincing, but once I receive convincing evidence; I have no choice but to believe it.Storyteller wrote:So you can choose to not believe something but you can`t choose to believe something?

Like what?
For the people who have seen aliens, they have their evidence. There are photos of ghosts all over the place. Some people choose to believe there is a face on Mars.
It is choice Ken.
You just choose not to believe. Just like I choose to.

Okay, let me see if I've got this straight. Earlier if I recall correctly you said your ability to choose what you believe is limited to your belief in God, that it does not apply to politics, health, etc. Now you say you could just as easily choose to become atheist as you have chosen to be christian. Am I correct thus far?Storyteller wrote:Yes.Kenny wrote:Does this mean you could just as easily choose NOT to believe?Storyteller wrote:Convincing evidence?Kenny wrote:I can choose to avoid the evidence that I might find convincing, but once I receive convincing evidence; I have no choice but to believe it.Storyteller wrote:So you can choose to not believe something but you can`t choose to believe something?

How are you defining "blind leap of faith"?B. W. wrote:No because you, Ken, and Ed every single day take a blind leap of faith as well as live by that blind leap, Audie...Audie wrote:B. W. wrote:Because you have faith, Audie...Audie wrote:Odd q. Why would you ask that?B. W. wrote:

"FAITH" has a lot of definitions and shades of meaning. Now you've added assertions, and two metaphors.B. Why would I think you've improved on your original bit of equivocation fallacy?
