Re: Trump and Evangelicals: Christianity Today Article
It goes against conventional wisdom that a majority of Christians would vote for the candidate who is polled as seeming the least Christian. minus Bernie Sanders
But then again, there is nothing conventional about this election so far. Come back in 6 months and this political climate will resemble Pandora or something.

What does he expect? A gospel preaching President? I wish, but there is noone running in this race that could be considered a gospel preacher including Ted Cruz who I bet this person supports for President.Ted Cruz is fake compared to Trump, even if Trump goes to a church with bad doctrine. Even if I agree with him about the bad doctrine though? When it comes to Cruz or Trump? I have to go with Trump even if he is not a perfect Christian because of what Ted Cruz did in this election that makes him look like a hypocrite. To whom much is given much is required.Philip wrote:Here's a article from Christianity Today analyzing Evangelical trends and support for Trump: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/201 ... trump.html
Cruz cannot hold up a bible, talk about is faith in Jesus pandering for the Christian vote in Iowa and then go out and lie and slander other candidates and lie about his record when called on it which he has done and he gets away with it because his supporters cover it up and ignore it while bashing Trump. Atleast Trump tells the truth and does'nt put on an act. Trump is still more real of a person about his faith than Ted Cruz is. I have never said Trump is a perfect Christian, only that he has been more real and honest than the others and he is friendly to Christians.I see Trump as a man of faith in Jesus but is like a babe in Christ ,who may not have everything down biblically, but still believes and is honest about it,he does'nt act like something he's not,he's real, flaws and all.
I think alot of Christians have heard things Trump has said about people and they judge him unfairly and out of context. But when in context nothing Trump has said is a reason to judge him and think he's not a Christian because every attack you've heard out of context from the media that came from Trump were responses to people who attacked him first. In this whole campaign Trump has never started it with anybody, every harsh thing Trump has said about people was Trump just standing up for himself and fighting back and in this context this is no reason to not like Trump, especially when you understand politics.
It might make Christians cringe when Trump says harsh things about people, but he never started it,they were all responses to being attacked first. Now maybe you think Trump should just suck it up and take it when these people attack Trump, but in politics? You lose if you don't stand up for yourelf and politically we need somebody who will stand up to these attacks and fight back to get things done. We don't need a nice guy that lets people walk all over him politically,we've had enough of this and it does'nt work.
It would be totally different if Trump just said these things randomly attacking people with harsh language picking fights with people, but this is not how Trump is, Trump never attacks a person first he only stands up for himself after being attacked and it is a good thing, not a bad thing and it does not mean he's not a Christian. These people should not attack Trump first if they can't take it back. Call it righteous anger. Trump is a nice man unless you attack him and it is good to know politically that he will fight back as President.
The real bullies are the ones who attack Trump first like Megyn Kelly and then people give her a pass and are appalled at Trump for fighting back after she attacked him first and still does on her TV show. You Trump critics should be calling her out instead of Trump because she started it and has not stopped but is somehow seen as the victim.

If you take off your Trump glasses just for a moment, you'd see how ridiculous this is. Megyn Kelly didn't attack Trump. As a reporter/journalist/moderator, trying to be objective, one must ask tough questions. One must bring up controversial issues, to press for the truth.acb wrote:

For the love of God, please stop blaming Megyn Kelly for bringing up something that Trump is guilty of doing.

Re: Trump and Evangelicals: Christianity Today Article
ACB, you are a Trump fanboy! Period! You've lost all credibility as to having any possible objectivity over him. You find excuses for him, no matter WHAT his behavior has been. You even have asserted him to be a Christian without some very compelling self statements that he clearly is not. When pressed about that, you ignored his very own words! For you to relentlessly make excuses for his juvenile, insulting tactics - always responding with, "Well, they attacked him first" - well, you think this justifies some of the stuff coming out of his mouth? And guess what, if he were president, not only would he further alienate more conservative Democrats and independents, but he would use the same bully tactics on those in his own party. Why? Because merely presenting well-reasoned and compelling facts are not his style - trying to humiliate or demonize those who disagree with him is his style. This is no man one wants in the presidency. And if this is the best the Republicans can come up with, God help us!
ACB, when are you going to get some objectivity? There is a huge difference between the fact that Trump has voiced a lot of legitimate concerns of people and of him being a person we should trust with the presidency. And he is seen as VERY divisive, arrogant and bullying - even to people like me who are VERY politically conservative. And he is perceived this way by many, many Christians. That should make you be more objective, because people with these many negative perceptions of Trump are not all naive, clueless people who don't know the circumstances surrounding his behavior. I'm 58 years old. I've been very aware of Trump's tactics for over 30 years. He's a rich, manipulative, loud mouth jerk. And he is so incredibly abrasive, insulting and divisive that he will likely assure we have a President Hillary. If you knew how wary and fearful many conservative-minded people are of him - people whom, by the way, absolutely despise Hillary Clinton - then you should also realize that millions of people are wary of Trump for good reasons, and not because they are clueless about why he does what he does.
As well, Trump has given VERY few details of what his policies would be - foreign or domestic. And people think he is going to solve the illegal issue???!!! This is a complex issue with many tentacles. It will take good judgment, persuasiveness, toughness AND compassion, along with working with both Democrats and Republicans. Loud mouth posturing and arrogant proclamations will not do anything but alienate and make the Republicans look like heartless tyrants. People think Trump will march into office like a king and simply have the fools do his bidding. It doesn't work that way, no matter how desperate people are for some rock-star/savior politician. We, as Christians, better do a whole lot more praying for out country than we spend time hoping that some politician is going to solve things.
Really, if Hillary becomes indited, as she is far less popular amongst minorities (who supported Obama), Trump might well become president. If that becomes the case, people better pray I am wrong about him!

Then how come she only does it to Trump and not Ted Cruz,Hillary Clinton,Bernie Sanders, etc? She is biased against Trump and it is clear. If you don't like Trump you might like her attacks and unfair bias but Trump just fights back against her and calls her out on it using his Twitter account and then Fox News defends Megyn Kelly. She is not the victim,Candy Crowley took out Mitt Romney when he ran for President and she did far less than what Megyn Kelly has done.RickD wrote:If you take off your Trump glasses just for a moment, you'd see how ridiculous this is. Sorry buddy but if Trump is the President Christians will love Trump. I don't care what you say there is nothing wrong at all politically for Trump to fight back politically and stand up for himself when he has been attacked first.Philip wrote:ACB, you are a Trump fanboy! Trump has been attacked, scrutinized, and questioned about his politicies and ideas more than any other candidate and from both sides too and unfairly he has answered them and has given far more substance about his plans that any other candidate. You act like you don't know how Trump would carry out his policies foreign or domestic, when he has been questioned over and over about it. The truth you are overlooking is you don;t have any substantive answers to the other candidates politicies foriegn or domestic, because they all get a pass and only go after Trump. There is no way you as a voter can make an informed decision when only Trump is being attacked, scrutinized and questioned about his ideas while the other candidates get a pass.
If you don't know how Trump would carry out his policies foriegn or domestic? You have not been even listening to him because he has explained how and why many of times.I know how Trump would carry out his policies because I have actually listened to him and Trump is right and his policies will benefit America and strengthen America.
Christians are gonna love Trump. I have never over done Trump,or made him out to be more than he is when it comes to his faith. I have only explained how and why he has been more honest about it than the other candidates. It seems like you are expecting Trump to be some perfect Christian when there is not another candidate running that would be a perfect Christian. Bottom line Trump is more real and not fake like the others but they get away with it.
Here listen to this.

ACB: It seems like you are expecting Trump to be some perfect Christian when there is not another candidate running that would be a perfect Christian.
NO! I don't expect Trump to be a perfect Christian when he almost certainly - and by his own admission - is not one. And, depending upon the person, I might be able to vote for a non-Christian - maybe even over a Christian. But that person would need to have integrity and long-term views and behaviors I respect. Trump does not have these. Again, ACB, how in the world do you consider a man who admits he has NEVER sought God's forgiveness, that he doesn't even see that to be important - why do you believe such a person is likely to be a Christian? Inquiring minds want to know?

Re: Trump and Evangelicals: Christianity Today Article
That is out of context and not taking into account all that Trump has said about his faith. Eventhough it bothered me to hear him imply he does not ask for forgiveness.I did'nt take it like that,he was being grilled by a reporter who does not understand how Christians can like him or how he can say he is a Christian and Trump is trying to sell the idea he is a winner and won't make mistakes,he was not answering the question directly because a person was questioning his faith and he was just trying to stay on point about how he is a winner and won't make mistakes, that we can trust him, just said it in a different way.He did'nt like the question and was trying to stay on message.Philip wrote:ACB: It seems like you are expecting Trump to be some perfect Christian when there is not another candidate running that would be a perfect Christian.

He just did'nt answer the question like you thought he should and he ignored it and tried to stay on message. It was not how I would've answered but it was honest and not being fake,he is like a babe in Christ and needs more biblical knowledge. Trump does'nt want to get bogged down about his faith putting on a fake show about his faith or overdoing it like most politicians do at election time which is so cliche, and which anyone running can say and do when running for office, he wants his actions to do the talking. He's a real person flaws and all.
Trump is smart and he knows how the liberal media works. Let's say Trump had answered like you think he should and said yes I ask for forgiveness, and had really made his faith an issue and played it up like say Ted Cruz has then the media would be grilling him about his faith everytime he fights back and stands up to the bullies, they would be trying to paint him as a hypocrite.
They already take things he has said out of context and distort the truth about his statements he has made. The never report the truth, they never tell you the whole story. Instead they totally ignore who attacked Trump first and only focus on his responses that were just reponses to whoever attacked him first, they never tell you what the other person said about Trump first, they distort the truth and then they paint him as a sexist, mean spirited man, hateful, etc person who is unfit to be the President and it would be even worse if he had made his faith more of an issue. He does'nt give them that ammunition.
The question is why do you doubt him when he has said he is a Protestant and not a Catholic and goes to a Presbyterian church? And he said the bible is the best book ever written to man, even better than even his book.He even said that he changed his mind about abortion and is now pro-life because of family and friends he has. Why don't you believe him? He's been more honest than any of the other candidates that can win have.

Re: Trump and Evangelicals: Christianity Today Article
Because, ACB, being a Protestant and Presbyterian does not make a person a Christian. Him asserting the Bible to be a great book is irrelevant to salvation. The problem is not that I don't believe what he says about his faith - the problem I have is that I DO believe what he said, and to a direct question: He was directly asked if he had EVER sought God's forgiveness. His reply showed 1) He has not and 2) that he doesn't even understand the necessity of doing so:, "I'm not sure I have ever asked God's forgiveness." And, "I don't bring God into that picture." And he further clarified his cluelessness concerning his need for repentance and forgiveness by also stating, "When I go to church and when I drink my little wine and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of forgiveness. I do that as often as I can because I feel cleansed. I say let's go on and let's make it right." declared Trump." These are absolutely not evidence Trump is a Christian. In fact, they strongly suggest otherwise. Later asked for additional clarification, Trump said, ""Why do I have to repent or ask for forgiveness, if I am not making mistakes?" Adding, "I work hard, I'm an honorable person."ACB: The question is why do you doubt him when he has said he is a Protestant and not a Catholic and goes to a Presbyterian church? And he said the bible is the best book ever written to man, even better than even his book.He even said that he changed his mind about abortion and is now pro-life because of family and friends he has. Why don't you believe him? He's been more honest than any of the other candidates that can win have.
Let's not forget that Trump grew up highly influenced attending Marble Collegiate Church, the church of his parents, pastored by Norman Vincent Peale - a prominent New Ager - positive thinking guru Norman Vincent Peale, who denied the exclusivity of and necessity for faith in Christ.
So, ACB, for whatever you'd like to believe about Trump politically, please don't assert him to be a Christian, unless you believe a person who admits he has NEVER sought God's forgiveness, nor understands how crucial that to be, is a Christian because of what church or denomination he's a part of. Yes, his words might sound "churchy" and "Christian" - but you should know better. You can hope he is, wish he is, but this won't make it so. There are going to be a lot of Presbyterians in hell! And Baptists, Catholics, Methodists - you name the denomination, no denominational membership matters, not one bit!
