Re: Rise from the Ted? Cruz campaign may be renewed
Believe me, I wish the Cruz campaign would "rise from the Ted." Heck I'd take any of the Bushes over Donald Trump. However, since Trump has the delegates, I sincerely doubt there will be any well organized effort to overthrow his place at the RNC. Legally speaking, Trump has every right to be the nominee, as he has earned it.
Is it just me, or is this election basically a choice between which poison will be easier to take?

It is true, legally speaking, Trump is entitled to the nomination. But the fact of law is that it is malleable and prone to flights of fancy. There are efforts right now to rewrite the rules regarding delegates by the 11th hour of the convention.B35Patriot wrote:Believe me, I wish the Cruz campaign would "rise from the Ted." And afterwards, it will be considered perfectly legal. Such is the danger of politics in law, and law in politics.

DBowling gave you substance. So did I. I'm always specific when I criticize that buffoon. Your response is invariably to regurgitate Trump's talking points. Were you under the impression that "substance" meant repeating the same non-specific talking point 5 times in a single post?abelcainsbrother wrote:I would just prefer some more substance,is all.Fascist?anger? The comparisons with fascists are emotionally loaded, but that doesn't make them inaccurate. Fascism combines nationalism, populism, and xenophobia into a platform designed to inspire anger and fear, usually directed against some unpopular "other" group. If everything lines up right the people hand their freedom over to the fascists in return for safety from communists, immigrants, Jews, Muslims, or whatever. Is that Trump's endgame? Honestly, I doubt it. I don't think he has a plan. Still, at the moment he's pushing all the same buttons that a fascist would push. He's even been having his supporters at rallies raise their right hands and pledge to support him. Fascist? Well, kinda looks the part. At the very least it's incredibly tone-deaf.
Is Trump Hitler? No, of course not. Is he using a lot of the same political strategies that were used by Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, and dozens of tinpot dictators since? Yes, he absolutely is.
How about "not a conservative"...?
Well, he's opposed to free trade, intends to put tariffs on foreign goods, supports Planned Parenthood, vacillates all over the place on gun control, has come out in favor of raising the minimum wage (after saying it was too high during the primaries), and has said that he'd like to see a Muslim national registry and that he'd unilaterally ban Muslim immigration (over the opposition of Congress). Oh, and using his position as the presumptive Republican nominee to put public pressure on the judge in the Trump U lawsuit left a lot of Conservatives worried that he doesn't understand and/or value having an independent judiciary.
So yeah, based on his stated policy positions, Donald J. Trump is not a Conservative.
Or maybe he is. It's kind of hard to say with any certainty, since he's taken multiple positions on just about every issue.
Also, here's a list of ten policy issues where Trump and Ryan (the voice of the actual Republican Party) passionately disagree.
Was that substantive enough?

It is pretty bad when both liberals and people who claim to be conservatives say the same things about Trump. No,ed at least you try to give substance behind what you say. I know what the problem was with ypou though. You get your news from the liberal media, while I don't. I know they cannot be trusted to tell the truth but yet you trust them.Just like when you were talking about polls showing Hillary winning and I told you they were wrong and the Brexit vote proves I was right because the polls were wrong. And they are wrong in this country too. Told you to believe the opposite of about 90% of what they report on. When they say Hillary is winning believe the opposite, when they down play the threat of Islamic terrorism? Believe the opposite. When they claim the things Trump wants to do are wreckless and dangerous? Believe the opposite.also told and warned months ago that we will see Islamic terrorist attacks and we have and its going to continue, until things get better. It is you that have been wrong,so far. You shouldn't listen to the liberal news media. There is absolutely no reason to believe Trump is a fascist just because you don't even understand him and disagree with him. Nothing Trump has said or is running on would make anybody think he is a fascist.edwardmurphy wrote:DBowling gave you substance. So did I. I'm always specific when I criticize that buffoon. Also everyone of the things you brought up to clai!m Trump is not a conservative are not and have never been apart of conservatism. I know its been awhile since Reagan but what we've had since Reagan are not and have not been conservatives. Also Trump has related over and over he is pro-life but you're taking Trump out of context to claim he is not pro-loife because he pointed out the good things Planned Parenthood have done for the health of women. Ted Cruz did the exact same thing and accused Trump of not being pro-life and he was lying through his teeth. Because it is a fact that Planned Parenthood has done good things for women's health, except for abortion and this is all Trump meant by it. Plus he is going to put Supreme Court judges like Scalia on the Supreme Court,so it is a moot thing to even bring up.And that is all any conservative President would do,put conservative judges on the court.

Yeah, just try to imagine how much better things would be if these establishment RINO'S faught against liberalism like they are doing to Trump. Their enemy is supposed to be liberalism, not Trump, yet they fight him harder than their supposed to be political enemies to defeat. They are supposed to be fighting politically to destroy liberalism. They are just hurting themselves politically and are being ignored and exposed for all to see. They are the reason Trump is winning and so popular but are in denial.Hortator wrote:It is true, legally speaking, Trump is entitled to the nomination. Trump is hated by the current pope, the media, the DNC, the GOP, Iran, Islamists, Euro-hippies, tinpot dictators around the world (excluding Putin for some reason) and sanctimonious social justice warriors on the net. And pretty much every other deleterious group of persons you can think of.abelcainsbrother wrote: It is pretty bad when both liberals and people who claim to be conservatives say the same things about Trump.

I've noticed the media have really stepped up more tactful sledging on Trump now the race is on. He provides lots of opportunities, but I'm not sure he knows any more how to use the media to his benefit. I"m not sure going to Scotland right now was a bright idea.
The honeymoon period of just desiring someone to cause anarchy, seems to be wearing off people. So he's sliding in the polls, though if there's a good time for a slip in popularity it's now because people then, who aren't firm either way, given enough time normally generally start flowing back again.
But, he really needs to touch some new bases. Pull out of his repertoire something a lot of people can get behind, and soon if the polls are accurate. Otherwise, perhaps RickD's prophecy was right months ago re: Clinton as the next.

Hillary is an angry, bitter old woman. We don't need her in the White House. I'm not usually someone who defends a guy who has multiple adulterous affairs. But if I were married to her...
Just sayin'.

I feel like it's a too little too late situation for the media, which is really just the information arm of the DNC.Kurieuo wrote:I've noticed the media have really stepped up more tactful sledging on Trump now the race is on. The Trump virus could not be contained. It was during those "Who's doin' the raping?!" calls and other such things in late 2015 when the DNC could have pulverized Trump, and salted the earth then and there. But they got careless, and let a con get away with something (!!). As for why they let him live, could be arrogance that he would have finished himself off. Could have been underestimation of him. Or simply he fell through the cracks.
This signals to me, if any prospective conservative leaders pop up going forward, the media is going to be extremely thorough to prevent them from having anything aside from a negative image. Trump slid by with just a controversial one; in-between positive and negative.
