Don't know about the Yale stuff, but I so love Guinness Extra Stout. Seems they are better when they are terribly cold - not warm - but just right.Paul: I shan't lower myself to argue with a non-Guinness drinker.

As for drinking alcohol, the Lord obviously approved, wine was considered a blessing and drunkenness a great sin. To me, it all starts with an attitude of respect about alcohol, and an unbreachable absolute for a level you NEVER drink beyond. As well, stay way away from people for whom drinking is a sport of constant excess. I grew up in a Baptist, "never drink a drop" home. My wife grew up in the Northeast (need I say more?), and they always have wine and beer on holidays. Not once, in nearly 30 years have I ever seen one of her family tipsy or drunk. As a young guy, I got hammered because I equated alcohol with partying and getting buzzed. The idea that it could be greatly enjoyed in strict moderation never occurred to me until later. But if I was from a family of alcoholics, I might well would never touch a drop. But it starts with attitude toward it, and what is right and wrong about it.

People blame alcohol ( not saying YOU mind you) but it is a symptom of a greater problem.

I grew up in a home where my dad regularly abused alcohol. Some people shouldn't drink. Just like some people shouldn't smack their kids.
Though in saying that, many people struggle greatly with alcohol addiction and I don't want to sound like I'm over simplifying the problem. Just trying to say that it's not just a matter of everyone not drinking. Just some.
It's the person consuming the alcohol that can do damage. Not the the bottle itself.

Anyone dealing with the public at ground level sees the damage that addiction causes and how far the damage spreads. I actually consider alcohol a worse problem than cannabis. I especially felt for the children involved.Nessa wrote:I grew up in a home where my dad regularly abused alcohol. Some people shouldn't drink. Just like some people shouldn't smack their kids.

My medical family members say that roughly 10% of the population is prone to addiction. Believe they refer to it as addictive personalities. That same group can be addicted regardless what activity is causing the addiction, be it sex/porn, drugs, alcohol, gambling, reckless ventures for adrenaline rush, pleasure shopping, etc.

Are you saying though Jesus should have turned the water into weed?
Some people are addicted to racing cars. If a family member got killed because someone was racing, I wouldnt go over and kick the heck out of the car.
Lets face the root cause and put the responsibility where it belong

There's an article I found about addiction -- one perspective is that every person has an inner void / searching for something to satisfy that void. The idea Being that it's a heart-shaped void that God is meant to fill. God's Love. 'Looking for love in all the wrong places'.
It's also unfortunate that once a person has taken drugs -- the drug can / will change the brain -- and once That has happened -- the person Does have a problem.
Since no one knows What affect alcohol / drugs will have on a person -- it's Better to leave it alone in the 1st place.
Leave the 'bottle' on the shelf in the store. Same with the drug. Say 'no' to peer pressure -- because Not 'everyone' is 'doing it'.

What would Jesus do? Or what has he already DONE? Was His example one of being a teetotaler? Did many in ancient Israel not also get hammered silly? Did that stop Jesus from drinking wine? Why NOT?Since no one knows What affect alcohol / drugs will have on a person -- it's Better to leave it alone in the 1st place.

I'm not aware of scripture saying that Jesus drank wine. But, the fact that he changed water into wine, seems like it means he didn't find anything inherently wrong with drinking wine, in and of itself.Philip wrote:What would Jesus do? Re: For all those who drink Beer - Rejoice!
I've heard that drinking Fresh wine is okay -- but letting it sit and fermenting is what makes it questionable. And scripture Does say that a Little wine for the stomach's sake is okay. But there's Also a passage Proverbs 20:1 "Wine is a mocker , strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise." Genesis 9 tells about when Noah got drunk.
Ephesians 5:18 "And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit (Holy Spirit)."
There are other verses --such as Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
And there's another verse that talks about liberty in Christ -- just because I Can do it -- is it profitable To do it.
And I've gone with the concept -- when in doubt - Don't do it.
Wasn't Jesus' first miracle that Of changing the water into wine at the wedding? It was Miraculous -- it was meant to get the attention of the host of the wedding party?!
