Is nationalism healthy? What purpose does it serve?

This has nothing to do with the definition but what has arisen in a culture of blatant racism and prejudice that hides behind a veil of so called nationalism.

There is and always has been a difference in nationalism and nativism. The former is good. The latter is not.

If I can only call upon a couple of points although there are many;
Firstly out indigenous
The aboriginals are now thought to be the oldest in the world. Our cave drawings have been dated back to at least 40,000 years.
We have a culture so rich in ancient history it's actually quite astounding
Secondly our culture of veterans is a testament to our nation.
My great uncle Terri died in the Vietnam war when he threw himself on land mine to save his mates.
Our nation identity of mateship and sacrifice for the under dog is part of our history.
We are a young country with some issues but nevertheless with a strong identity.
I love being Australian
And I'm proud of our culture

I assume you mean my comments? It is true, we have no identity. People here always look to the past, unless they're asian which is become a predominant makeup. White Aussie is being seen not so much as your larikan, but rather racist bogan.

I never said we didn't have a heritage. I don't say such a thing lightly. Today, Australia is in disarray because of a government who has largely sold our identity out, partly because of our location in the world, partly because no one respect us, partly because the only thing we cling to are far past and many new people have come who do not identify with such.

Australia, is generally Globalist without explicitly being such. Our identity is today a mish-mash of different external nations and cultures. There is no singular identity. Perhaps if WWIII happens, then a new identity will be formed of one people again. But, a Babylon 5 has new real identity.
