Don't know much about the guy, but I've come to his grillings and the like of Clinton and the FBI.
Here he speaks on truth, diversity and the direction of the US, politics, etc.

Re: Good Speech by Trey Gowdy
I saw that video recently. It disturbed me that he used 2 chronicles 7:14, out of context, to apply to the US.
I like a lot of what Gowdy says, but when people associate that promise to the US, or any other country besides Israel, it kinda scares me.
Makes me think about Christians who want the US to be a theocracy. Scary stuff.

I thought he used that rather conservatively, just as a point to note as a good first step regardless of beliefs, a starting point is to turn. Couldn't really disagree with that. I'm not aware of his wanting a theocracy, if he has them.

I'm certainly not saying that HE wants a theocracy. It's just something that comes to mind when Christians think that the US is the new Israel, or that the US is a Christian country. I've heard some Christians locally, say that we need to take back America. That sounds like buzz words for, "make people follow Christianity".Kurieuo wrote:I thought he used that rather conservatively, just as a point to note as a good first step regardless of beliefs, a starting point is to turn. I think it is evident to most US has gone in a bad direction. Like Trey says, everyone agrees that murder is bad, abusing children and the like. Such is the common base, regardless of a diversity of beliefs. I guess, I had a different impression, that he was actually supporting unity in diversity (rather than specifically Christian), but then I'm not necessarily saturated to underlying sentiments of Christians who consider the US like the new Israel, etc so didn't detect such.RickD wrote:I'm certainly not saying that HE wants a theocracy. Re: Good Speech by Trey Gowdy
It's probably nothing. But when people misquote that verse, especially Americans, they're essentially saying that if American Christians humble themselves, and seek God, then God will heal the US. There's no promise of such.
In fact, there's a good chance that it will only get worse. As Christians, ultimately our focus should not be on healing our country. This country is only our temporary home.
That's all.

That's just an insult to Christianity, thinking it needs any help by the state. Christianity always wins on its own.RickD wrote:I'm certainly not saying that HE wants a theocracy.
