I watched the dinner. It's a tradition for the candidates to roast themselves and each other in front of a crowd of the richest of the rich in order to raise money for Catholic charities.
Trump had some really funny lines to start out - the one about bumping into Clinton and the one about Melania's speech were great - but then he sort of lost his way and just started muttering insults without the jokes. That's when he lost the crowd. He ended up getting booed for the last half of his speech.
Clinton did better. She didn't have anything as good as the Melania joke, but she never lost the crowd or looked angry.
The best part of the whole thing was Giuliani's face when Clinton was making fun of him.
