Discussion about scientific issues as they relate to God and Christianity including archaeology, origins of life, the universe, intelligent design, evolution, etc.
The word definition for evolution has become more refined over the years to blend into the meaning of adaptation more than a lower life form evolving into a completely new form such as a sea slug becoming a eagle.
Many folks wrongly assume that sort of definition that a sea slug becoming a eagle is how all people define evolution, even all OEC or Progressive Creationist or theistic...
Not so. While the academic world may hold and teach that view; let's not forget that when a chrsitan speaks of evolution does not mean he or she means the same as the academic world. but may be speaking more in line with adaptation.
Below are the definitions for evolution and adaptation...
2
a : a process of change in a certain direction : unfolding
b : the action or an instance of forming and giving something off : emission
c:
(1) : a process of continuous change from a lower, simpler, or worse to a higher, more complex, or better state : growth
(2) : a process of gradual and relatively peaceful social, political, and economic advance
d : something evolved
3: the process of working out or developing
4
a : the historical development of a biological group (as a race or species) : phylogeny
b : a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modifications in successive generations; also : the process described by this theory
5: the extraction of a mathematical root
6: a process in which the whole universe is a progression of interrelated phenomena
Simple Definition of evolution
biology : a theory that the differences between modern plants and animals are because of changes that happened by a natural process over a very long time
: the process by which changes in plants and animals happen over time
: something that is adapted; especially : a movie, book, play, etc., that is changed so that it can be presented in another form
: a change in a plant or animal that makes it better able to live in a particular place or situation
: the process of changing to fit some purpose or situation : the process of adapting
Full Definition of adaptation
1: the act or process of adapting : the state of being adapted
2: adjustment to environmental conditions: as
a : adjustment of a sense organ to the intensity or quality of stimulation
b : modification of an organism or its parts that makes it more fit for existence under the conditions of its environment
3: something that is adapted; specifically : a composition rewritten into a new form
Something to consider when discussing a topic such as this - how does one define what they mean by evolution helps the discussion to evolve, improve, and adapt into better communication skills...

Kinda like when I complain about all the equivocation on the word "faith"?
But yes, the word has various meanings.
That is why one should refer to the theory of evoluiton, or, "ToE" (which is shorter than "evolution" anyway) if that is what they are talking about.
