Where does your soul go when your body dies?
If a husband and wife die and can't be buried side by side, do their souls go someplace where their souls are together?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Theres no marriage in heaven so their spirits will be where everyone else's spirits will be. Either hell bound or heaven bound.

They go to Parricide with Jacob's bosom.
John 5:24

I didn't ask if there would be marriage in heaven.Nessa wrote:Theres no marriage in heaven so their spirits will be where everyone else's spirits will be. Either hell bound or heaven bound.

So souls are all together until judgment day no matter where they are buried.RickD wrote:They go to Parricide with Jacob's bosom.

Re: Where does your soul go when your body dies?
The souls of the saved go to heaven to be with Christ immediately following death where they remain until the resurrection. The souls of the damned go immediately after death to hades or sheol or hell or whatever term you want to use where they remain until the resurrection.
And that, brothers and sisters, is the kind of foolishness you get people who insist on denying biblical theism. A good illustration of any as the length people will go to avoid acknowledging basic truths.Proinsias wrote:I don't think you are hearing me. Preference for ice cream is a moral issue

I don't see how burial location matters. What matters, is if they die in their sins.Christian2 wrote:So souls are all together until judgment day no matter where they are buried.RickD wrote:They go to Parricide with Jacob's bosom.
Jac3510's answer is correct.
If a believer dies in China, and is buried in California, he goes to be with the Lord, just like a believer who dies in Kenya, and is cremated in New York.

Do you have a verse in scripture that explains this?Jac3510 wrote:The souls of the saved go to heaven to be with Christ immediately following death where they remain until the resurrection. Only when the blood runs and the shackles restrain, will the sheep then awake. When all is lost.

Re: Where does your soul go when your body dies?
Lots and lots and lots and lots of verses. For the souls of the saved, see verses like Luke 23:43, Phil 1:23, Rev 6:9. For the souls of the damned, see verses like Luke 16:19-31, Dan 12:1-2; Rev 20:11-15. Note in particular with these last two the unrighteous dead are also resurrected or raised up from sheol/hades. Which is to say, that is where they were. You can do a rather long study on the concept of death in the OT to see what sheol (which is the Heb equivalent of hades) is like.
We can make a more general statement. Death for the unrighteous is a terrible, awful thing. The "life" after is anything but pleasant. And yet, given Christ's work, we are forced to make an exception for the righteous. They are with Christ and at peace (see verses above) and ultimately awaiting the resurrection (along with their unrighteous counterparts). If you're not very familiar with this material, I'd strongly encourage you to do a search on sheol, which is the OT view of "hell." Resist the temptation to immediately import Christian ideas, but don't draw firm conclusions until you get through the NT development of the doctrine. You'll see, in general, a progression of the idea that sheol is a place of all the dead--a place of silence, of sleep, of sadness, of eternal death, etc.--to a place of judgment and suffering, to a place in which the righteous dead await their resurrection to eternal life on the Day of the Lord, such that ultimately sheol becomes viewed as a temporary abode of the dead until the Last Day when the righteous are established forever in the Messianic Kingdom and the wicked are resurrected to suffer forever.

Re: Where does your soul go when your body dies?
So, now I need to know if the two people I have in mind have been saved and only God knows this.Jac3510 wrote:The souls of the saved go to heaven to be with Christ immediately following death where they remain until the resurrection. The souls of the damned go immediately after death to hades or sheol or hell or whatever term you want to use where they remain until the resurrection.
They both could be with Christ or they both could be in hades or one with Christ and one in hades.
Well, in that case, it would not matter if their bodies were buried side by side.

Re: Where does your soul go when your body dies?
Correct. Ther are, of course, different schools of thought within Christianity on who has been saved and how we can know that. I think you know my own view is that "everyone who believes in [Christ] has everlasting life." If, then, on my interpretation, if either of these individuals ever placed their faith in Christ then they are with Him today. If not, then we have no confidence that they are with Him. We can still hope, of course, based on God's mercy and His knowing things we don't know. But the only confidence we can have that either or both are with Him is if they placed their faith in Christ, and in my view, that means if they ever placed their faith in Christ (since I am firmly in the OSAS camp).

I don't believe Scripture is clear. We'll certainly still know who people are in the afterlife, we don't lose our identity.Christian2 wrote:If a husband and wife die and can't be buried side by side, do their souls go someplace where their souls are together?
Thanks.
How a person dies, what happens to their physical bodies, has no ramification upon the spiritual. Not to go cartesian (which I reject), but our bodies here are like vessels. (1 Thess 4:4; 1 Cor 15:44)
"Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13)

Regardless of where their physical body is buried all souls either go to heaven or hell.
