Limited Free Will
I have an idea that might be neither Biblical or Scientific. I just hope I can say what I mean:)
Maybe what we would each do under certain circumstances is foreordained,
but whether these circumstances ever occur is not.
An extreme example, a variation on something that happened on an episode of "Father Brown": Maybe it is foreordained if someone makes you mad a certain way, you will shove them without thinking if you can. It may never happen to you, but once it does. Someone makes you mad standing beside you at the top of the stairs, you shove them, they fall down the stairs and die. This leads to all sorts of unusual circumstances.

Well, if you decide what you do then how is it limited?ultimate777 wrote:ultimate777 wrote:PaulSacramento wrote:Define free will.

I am going to ask that you try a quick exercise.
Take a few moments to do this.
Close your eyes and relax.
At some point you will have a thought.
When you do ask yourself when did you decide to have this thought?

Is that supposed to be an argument against free will?BGoodForGoodSake wrote:I am going to ask that you try a quick exercise.

24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

It's a question of the intellect informing the will (or vice versa).BGoodForGoodSake wrote:I am going to ask that you try a quick exercise.

Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

We decide what we do
That's unlimited free will.
Limited free will is we will do x under y circumstance but y may or may not ever happen.
