Well, I took my boys to see it today and really enjoyed it - my favourite Star Wars so far I think. I found it spectacular, exciting and not at all confusing. The vulnerable face of the bad guy (not the old wrinkly one!) - I really wanted him to turn around. No doubt there will be more on that in the final movie. Just no Leia or you-know-who.

Also, are we avoiding spoilers? I just want to be sure for potential readers who have not seen the movie yet.

I never have understood the mania over Star Wars. Perhaps because I found the originals' lengthy battle sequences (that all play out like video games) just massively boring. I much preferred Star Trek - especially The Next Generation, as far more interesting and realistic. Isn't it true that most people who love Star Wars hate Star Trek, and vice versa? Plus, it's a bit of slight differences in ages of their respective fans. Actually, both franchises were preceded with similar strange aliens and planets by Lost in Space - a very campy mid-60s TV show, but a lot of fun. Which, of course, was itself very influenced by 1950s sci-fi, B-movies - especially Forbidden Planet and The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Everyone enjoys what they enjoy. If you can't tell by my username the opposite is true for me. I've loved Star Wars since the moment I saw it, never got into Star Trek. I liked the new movies though. The idea that most Star Wars fans hate Star Trek is false, sure there are some, but I think most people enjoy both. This also happens with Marvel and DC comics. It's pretty annoying to be honest, fanboys can ruin a fandom.

Well, it was underwhelming because of all the hype with finding out who Rey's parents are, who Snoke is, and maybe see the Knights of Ren in action. And Captain Phasma really was a let down too. I also wanted to see Luke kick some butt, except he turned out to be a alien milking hermit. Really disappointing way to kill of the main protagonist of the original three movies. I waited 34 years for Luke to kick butt, and it didn't happen.

The story was confusing at times, with things happening, and characters introduced that really were unnecessary to the story.

But the worst scene was Leia's Mary Poppins impersonation.

The Force Awakens was my favorite of all the Star Wars movies, and for the first time watching any Star Wars movie, I felt like the Star Wars Magic was gone.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the movie. It just didn't live up to expectations.

Um...

I hate to say it phil, but you're probably too old to enjoy Star Wars.

Does anybody else think Kylo Ren was lying about Rey’s parents?

I sure hope so. Otherwise it's really lame. And, Star Wars is very specific about which characters have a British accent. I don't think the producers would make such an obvious mistake.

I'm leaning towards either a Kenobi granddaughter, or a Palpatine child or granddaughter.

I think it is interesting having an underdog to save the day.

Plus, The Force can choose whoever it wants to give it's power to. It's mysterious and incomprehensible by nature.

But I'm leaning towards a separate answer, where Rey's mum and dad are out there somewhere. Maybe Kylo told Rey they were dead to get her to let go of her attachments? Better fettered down by emotional anchors doesn't help when you try to become balanced with The Force. Just ask Anakin.

But then again, literally none of my predictions for the 8th film were right, so I guess I'll just wait for the 9th like a good consumerist lemming lol

Also, remember how left open the ending of the 7th film was? Well this ending is left even more wide open. Good job George Lucas. Making me wait 2 years...

How does Kylo know about her parents anyway?

Probably don't need to avoid them since they're mentioned in the thread title.

Supposedly by a force vision when he touches Rey.

Instead of the writers going with the storyline that Rey's parents are nobody, this is one time I'm hoping that Star Wars being owned by Disney, actually helps. Maybe Rey is a princess who lives a humble life as a junker on Jakku, only to realize her royal heritage later on?
