Merry Christmas!!
It amuses me how people in general can say to one another enthusiastically 'Merry Christmas!!' and really seem to care if you have great holiday.....
But what about the rest of the year? Its like they are saying... 'Make sure you have a good christmas but I dont really care if the rest of the year is [poop]'
Why does it even matter when alot of them arent even Christians?

Are you saying that we should wish people a merry Christmas the rest of the year too?Nessa wrote:

Interesting...
So, Santa Claus, over-commercialization, anxiety, and stress should be celebrated throughout the year?

They like the Christmas spirit. Almost everyone likes it, it's such a change from the usual cat vs dog life and people care for each other more in general.Nessa wrote: Why does it even matter when alot of them arent even Christians?

Re: Merry Christmas!!
yes, goodwill to all men and all that....
but it does have a bit of a fake quality like...
'Oh, its your birthday today so we better stop fighting until tomorrow... enjoy your present....'

Re: Merry Christmas!!
Does it matter? I think it does.
On the surface, any act or sentiment can be good but there is also that quote about good intentions leading to hell.
What I am trying to get at is whether we are truly genuine about our goodwill towards man at Christmas. Do we really want the best for the other person and if so is it just because we feel drunk on the 'Christmas Spirit'?
We can feel good about ourselves because once a year we might be more giving and more loving. Then Christmas passes and everything can seem to go back to normal.

Re: Merry Christmas!!
I always liked a lot of things about the Christmas season. But as an adult, I grew to greatly despise all of the crass commercialization of it all. Later, married with kids, I resented all of the busyness of it - shopping for presents, either getting ready for everyone coming to our house for a big dinner, or enduring the stress of airports and flying to my in-laws. But once we downsized a lot of that stuff - getting just a few simple presents for the kids, not shopping for siblings and extended family members, deciding to stay home on Christmas (not flying until sometime afterward), not doing a big dinner for everyone (we still do that for Thanksgiving) - it's just far more relaxing and enjoyable. Growing up, everyone bought a present for every family member - the craziness, cost and stress - that seemed to be what everyone did, as we did. This Christmas we'll be at my BIL's house - right in town - easypeasy!

Re: Merry Christmas!!
I've found it is best to just focus on the reason for the season the birth of our Lord and Savior,by doing this Christmas can be quite enjoyable in any circumstance we may find ourselves in.Getting all caught up in the commercialization is what really causes the stress and anxiety at Christmas time.Just don't do it and you'll have no problems no matter what situation you may find yourself in at Christmas time.

Wow! Is that who I think it is? The Audi that went back and forth with me helping me to better be able to make a stronger case against evolution? and other things too?You know what they say "Iron sharpens Iron" and Audi definately challenged me and I appreciate it.I like to be challenged about what I think and believe and let me tell you Audi gave me quite a bit of challenging.I actually appreciate it eventhough I always got the impression she thought I was dumb and stupid.Anyway I hope she has a Happy New Year and many more to come.
