Questions regarding teepees

Post by thatkidakayoungguy »

One of the people down the road has a big patch of woods that he lets me use. In about the middle of it, I made a small teepee. I am wondering how do regular teepees not get rain inside because their top is open to let out smoke.

When it rains, they leave and go live in their casinos.

How big of a fire usually is made in a teepee? Like the size of fire to size of teepee ratio?

Nah, I mean like how big a fire should one make in a teepee? I see tiny fires several inches across for ones like 28 feet tall.
Mine's like 5.5 feet tall, by 3-4 feet long or so, so it's not big at all.
A couple of candles?

Candles, definitely. Then you can use the hot wax for other things  (sorry, couldn't resist)

Seriously though, do you really need any fire at all in one that small, wouldnt body heat be enough?

It gets drafty in the south end, and when snow gets piled too high the tent sheet gets wet.

I have a dome tent and it is nice to use-however I can't get a flame near it, due to the fabric it's made from.

I wouldn't try this unless I actually had to-takes too dang long to get enough debris to keep dry, then the stuff might wanna fall in. Takes too long to get enough branches/trunks, especially if you're in an area where you can't cut down stuff.
