Discussion about scientific issues as they relate to God and Christianity including archaeology, origins of life, the universe, intelligent design, evolution, etc.
Yeah, I've always wondered why ID is called that. Why not just call it the "design theory" ? What is gained by adding the adjective "intelligent"? Isn't it implicit in the word "design" that some being with some intelligence is involved somewhere ?

It was added because "design" language is often used when by scientists who describe particular animals within the framework of natural evolutionary theories, without really endoring the implications of such language. Many such scientists when confronted would disagree that "design" necessarily means intelligence, or say that it is just a way of speaking. Therefore "Intelligent" was added to "Design" to coin "Intelligent Design" to save any confusion.
