Jesus isn't a candidate, but shouldn't the things that Jesus cares about have some relevance to the behavior of those that we publicly support and enable?
The Sermon on the Mount (Mat 5-7) is an excellent description of Jesus' Kingdom priorities.
The Beatitudes provide an introduction to the heart attitudes that are important to Jesus.
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
I think that a strong argument can be made that Trump's behavior is the antithesis to what Jesus teaches in the Sermon on the Mount.

You do realize the sermon on the mount deals with Christian discipleship, right?

Btw DBowling,

You do realize that your Mormon candidate doesn't even believe in the same kingdom of Heaven that we do?

So, it's a bit hypocritical to point that out in Trump, while not acknowledging the fact that your candidate doesn't even believe in the same God.

What's that called? Hoist by your own petard?

You know, it's an interesting intellectual exercise.

A registered Republican who used to run the FBI laid out 10 instances of obstruction of justice and you guys don't care.

Trump bragged about grabbing women by the pussy, unexpectedly kissing them, and walking in on his underage beauty pageant contestants. Then more than 20 women came forward and said "Yes, I can personally confirm that Donald Trump does the things that he says he does" and you guys didn't believe them. Or him, apparently. The first time, I mean. You always reject his confirmations and accept his denials.

When he was called out for benefitting from Russian interference he flat out said that he'd accept foreign help in an election. Then he got caught soliciting help from the Ukrainians. And Australia. Italy, too, IIRC. Then he publicly asked China for help. Then one of his guys released a bunch of texts that strongly support the argument that there was a quid pro quo arrangement in which Trump held up military aid to an ally (Ukraine) that's under severe military pressure from a hostile power (Russia. Again.) until he got illegal political support from said government. He literally put our national interests behind his reelection campaign in a way that hurt and ally and benefitted an adversary and you guys don't even think it merits investigation.

That's a pattern that's been repeated over and over and over. Trump says he does/has/or would do something, then he's caught/accused of/publicly seen doing that thing, then he denies it all and you guys believe him. The second time, I mean. You must think he was lying when he publicly said that he grabbed pussies, accepted election help from foreign governments, and so forth.

So yeah, even if I had no stake in any of it would be fascinating to see if there was anything - literally anything - that would convince you that Trump is corrupt.

Yes... and I believe you realize that the Sermon on the Mount reflects attitudes and behaviors that are important to Jesus.
You do realize that your Mormon candidate doesn't even believe in the same kingdom of Heaven that we do?
Yes I do, and I have acknowledged that any number of times in discussions with you.
So again I ask myself what is the rhetorical purpose of even asking that question when you already know the answer?
So, it's a bit hypocritical to point that out in Trump, while not acknowledging the fact that your candidate doesn't even believe in the same God.
Like I said above I have acknowledged that to you any number of times, so that particular statement of yours is not factually true.

Again I am not disputing the fact that no human is perfect.
And no human perfectly matches the heart attributes that are important to Jesus.

I am saying that IMHO Trump's behavior is the antithesis of the heart attitudes that Jesus describes in the Sermon on the Mount.

You wouldn't want to be president. You'd have to compromise your convictions. To be a politician at anywhere near that level, one can't keep the convictions that I know you have.

Rick, it would be super helpful if you'd include some information in your retorts.

What is it about my statement that's ignorant? Which of Trump's values do you think Phil and Trump share? Do they agree about the sanctity of marriage? Respect for women? The importance of honesty? Fiscal responsibility? Respect for the Constitution? Restraint and moderation? Importance of religion?

Frankly, if you think that Phil and Trump hold the same things dear then you have a very low opinion of Phil.
You said:
So are you going to vote for a guy who's literally the antithesis of all you hold dear? Again?
I'm not going to do the work for you, but you couldn't name 10 things, policies, that Trump has worked for, that Philip would agree with?

As I said before, Jesus Christ isn't a candidate for POTUS. So, philip, just like I, voted for the best candidate that had a chance to win. Even if we say he's "less worse" than the other candidate, he's still not the antithesis of all Phil holds dear.
This is why I always try to get Phillip to focus on the things Trump has done for the Christian church.Because I don't care if he does not like the way Trump deals with his political foes,he has delivered for the Christian church like no other President or politician has.We should not take it for granted. He has not forgot about and knows the reason he won is because of Christians who voted for him,in high numbers.Unlike over the decades with Republicans and politicians they just used Christians for their vote, kinda like how the Democrat Party has used the black vote.

I see you were living under a rock before Donald Trump ran for President.Because he is not the corrupt boogie man ya'll have made him into,at all, even Democrats are realizing Trump is not what everyone was so freaked out about. It is nice to see gas prices lower than when both Bush and Obama were President because of Trump an how he will not allow the Saudi's to manipulate our gas prices.Even after the attack on the oil in Saudi Arabia gas prices are still lower than when both Bush and Obama were President and America is the #1 producer of oil and gas.We produce more gas than we can even use,and we can sell the excess to other countries and make money, which is why gas prices have remained low, despite the attack in Saudi Arabia to try to raise gas prices to hurt Trump in this election year. It did not work.Gas prices went up maybe a dime here where I live, but they were already low,and are going back down slowly. The MSM was wrong again claiming gas prices are going to go high, they did'nt. More fake news. Next time you fill up,check out the low gas prices and don't forget to thank Trump. After decades of Democrats dominating politics we need some relief!
