What do you think of Tulsi Gabbard?

Post by Kurieuo »

Really, I'm primarily interested in Ed's thoughts. However, anyone else feel free to opine.

Ed,

Do you usually answer a question with another question?

I'm generally good with her positions, but I have concerns about her candidacy. The thing with Gabbard is that she has virtually no chance of winning the nomination, but she could be used as a spoiler in a tight race. There is evidence that Russian propagandists have lent their support to her candidacy. That doesn't mean that she's in any way complicit in Russia's activities, that she's a Russian agent, or any such thing, just that the Russians think that they could use her as a means to spread chaos. So far it seems like it's had an effect.

It's important to keep Russian election interference in perspective. Partisans that we are, there's a tendency for the discussion to consist of Democrats questioning Trump's legitimacy and Republicans denying Russia's actions. The reality is that Russia wanted to create chaos in the United States by ensuring that whoever won the election would have a cloud over their term. In short, the Russians screwed Clinton over by sabotaging her campaign and screwed Trump over by helping his campaign in a way that could never go unnoticed.

Now 2020 is just around and I expect that we'll see more of the same.
