What is established science? Well, when we're speaking of the many disciplines and discoveries of science, the word "established" really just means whatever the current understandings might be. Which means there are many mysteries remaining as well as ever-newer findings that might well replace previous our previous thinking. Just like, back in the early 20th century, when newer discoveries and data forced Einstein to conclude that his belief in the Steady State of the universe was completely wrong - as the newer data made it clear to him that universe is constantly expanding AND that it had an actual beginning - AND a Beginner!
So, see what researchers using data from the Gaia telescope, per its new, data-created map of 1.8 billion stars of the Milky Way, and why researchers now estimate the total mass of our galaxy to be just 200 billion times that of the sun - which is around four to five times lower than previous estimates. And so, how could other estimates be so wrong, or why might this one be? Which is true? Or are none of them are accurate? While scientific knowledge has produced many redundantly established findings, nonetheless, it builds upon past understandings and continues to evolve!
