Why isn't God's existence more overtly OBVIOUS?
How many people have I talked to or heard express their thoughts as they pondered the existence of God?
Many want undeniable PROOF - you know, the kind you can just about hold in your hands. Now, while I would certainly say to such a person, God has provided us MANY powerful evidences of Himself, through scientific evidences like DNA, the massive number of insanely fine-tuned variables across the earth and universe, the extraordinary existence of life, the total uniqueness of the human species - such things, nonetheless, require open mind and heart to perceive (do a search on this site (top right of the page) to learn about them). As the Apostle Paul says in Acts 14, "he (GOD) did not leave himself without witness."
What many assert they require is for God to peel the clouds back, and with a shout heard around the world, exclaim, "HERE I AM!" And yet, God has mostly chosen a different method of reaching human hearts and minds. In fact, across the Bible, from the miracles of Moses in Egypt, to those of Jesus before the Jews of Israel, undeniable and powerful miracles were often met by many with scoffing and stubborn resistance - which tells us something about the hardness of human hearts and minds vs. even undeniable PROOFS. People want to live how they want to live - so, most don't want to know about God or His desires for us, or what He offers us - because that would mean they would have to give up some things God says are wrong and harmful for us. As, ultimately, many simply don't want the beauty and peace of GOD, but their own sinful desires instead!
Back to how God has far more often - and more POWERFULLY - decided to reach the most hearts and minds of mankind, drawing them intellectually, emotionally and spiritually to the truth of His existence. God has often revealed Himself in ways WE would not - as we, especially man in the scientific age - think, IF He exists, that God would reveal Himself in the same ways that WE would. And yet, God is ALL-knowing beyond the "wisdom" of man - and thus His approach in revealing Himself is often different that we might suspect. His ways and insights are FAR above those of man!
Here, apologist and theologian Dr. Gavin Ortlund explains why God chose to reveal Himself to mankind in unexpected, but much MORE powerful and undeniable ways. Channeling some of the brilliant Christian thinkers of the past, this is an exceptionally revealing interview!
