What causes evil?

What causes evil?

From a secular perspective, is it possible to prove that evil exists beyond human creation? If you believe the Bible is true, then there is no problem, it tells you flat out that there is an evil out there beyond humans being bad.

I guess what I am really asking is: Is evil orcahstrated by the devil, or is the devil just an illusion that is created by humans and justified with wicked men? Is saying that the devil doesn't exist being realistic, or is it buying into his greatest lie?

It mentions Satan all the time. The Bible says that human beings commit evil, but that there is a greater evil beyond humans.
