yes, but I can't say i haven't lied on numerous occassions for that very reason.

Given the context and the way I see the bible uses the word lie, i think it is referring to lies out of malice. Lying to protect somebody doesn't seem like an unjust thing to do.

What we find is one small lie usually has to be covered up by a lot more small lies.
hence it's far better to be truthful.

Manipulating people comes naturally to me, so usually one small but unrefutable lie is enough. Not that I'm particularly proud of it, but I have avoided some potentially upsetting (violent in other words) situations because of it.
