I'm not surprised at all.

I often feel much more positive after letting water run through my hands and from washing my face with just water.

I camped along the Delaware River and each morning and night I'd rinse my face off in the river. It felt beautiful.

Hmm...wouldn't this have strong connections with Jewish ritual purity? Might all those actions having to do with purity and cleansing even have been a stimulus to follow God and walk in His ways?
The Bible says they were "willingly ignorant". In the Greek, this means "be dumb on purpose". (Kent Hovind)

That was my thought when I first read it in terms of Jewish Ritual purification.
