Christians are going to be see as bigoted and uncaring and generally evil because of something like this.
I agree with the christian stance - but it is going to be very hard for us to come across as non-judgemental and non-homophobic. It is going to become increasingly hard to be a christian in a secular society.

Silvertusk, Christians who point out that the Bible is very clear in its indication that sexual intimacy outside marriage is against God's moral law are already being called homophobic, bigoted and all the rest.
The liberal Christians are calling orthodox Christians all of these things.
Within the Church of England, it is the issue of homosexuality - that it is a sin, that practising gays should not be ordained - that is the front line of the battleground between liberal and orthodox "factions".
The liberals have an organization they call the "Inclusive Church" - inclusive because they include practising gays and tell them that their lifestyle is not sinful - and this "Inclusive Church" is far from inclusive when it comes to orthodox Christians who believe homosexuality to be a sin.
I have seen orthodox Christians fried and grilled, toasted and roasted, if they dare put in an appearance on the "Inclusive Church" forum and even hint as much that they believe the Bible teaches that homosexuality is sinful. These orthodox Christians are treated extremely aggressively, called bigots and "fundies" and homophobes and all kinds of ugly things.
Orthodox Christians are not allowed to separate sinner and sin, love the sinner and hate the sin, because the liberals will not make such a separation and simply tell us we are homophobic and hate gays, period.
It is ugly, very ugly.
And this is among Christians - or so-called Christians!
Add to that the non-believers who don't care what the Bible says about anything, those who are humanists or whatever and believe that everyone has "rights" to happiness and self-fulfilment, and that gays should be allowed to live as they wish and that their lifestyle should be considered "normal" these days, and they should not receive discrimination, etc, etc, etc.
In the UK, if this legislation goes ahead, you may find yourself legally in hot water even pointing out what is indicated in the Bible on this matter.
The resistance to this proposed legislation has been slow to gather momentum, but it is building and this situation has been known for some time. The legislation had been scheduled to pass into law last October, but was able to be delayed.
It is very important that Christians in Britain are made aware of the implications should this go through, and it is interesting that Muslims and Jews are also gearing up to lobby against this proposed legislation. Of course, it affects them as well since they also believe homosexual practices to be sinful.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. )
Anyway, the document did state that they didn't want to come across as homophobic or judgmental, and that they cared about the persons. I think they made good points.
The Bible says they were "willingly ignorant". In the Greek, this means "be dumb on purpose". (Kent Hovind)

Is this really the path any Christian wants to go down?
Read the rest of the article for an understanding of the implications of this piece of legislation.{clip} ... Two days ago, a momentous change occurred to the character of our nation. Quite simply, Britain stopped being a liberal society.
On that day, the Prime Minister announced that there would be no opt-out for Catholic adoption agencies from the Sexual Orientation Regulations, which will make it an offence to refuse to place children for adoption with gay couples.
...
It is not the merits or otherwise of gay adoption. It is the fact that Christians and other faiths can no longer choose to place children only in families with an adoptive mother and father, which they think serve best the interests of the child.
They are being told that the Government disapproves of such a view, and that accordingly they will be criminalised if they refuse to place children with same-sex couples.
In other words, such agencies will be forced to act against their religious and moral beliefs, or else shut down altogether. ...
