Thanks Swamper, that was my mistake, the philistines shouldn't be there, I think I added them in simply because I couldn't remember what races my source actually emntioned. I have reread it and it seems that both "Jewish and Arabs are Semitic people." "In 2500BC, the Semites were farming peoples such as the Akkadians,Canaanites and Amorites who lived in wat is now Israel, Jordan and Syria." It also says "The first Hebrews were a Semitic tribe from southern Mesopotamia. Their name meant 'people of the other side' - of the Euphrates River."
When I posted that Kewish peopleare't the only Semites I didn't mean to cause any offence I was simply pointing out what I thought was an interesting fact and I would agree with you that the term has come to exclusively mean Jewish people it just slighly irks mena when people talk abou Anti-Semetic Syrian etc. In the same way it irks me when people say that Ireland was once part of Britian, we were not we were part of the U.K. not Britian, Great Britian is an island. I know people mean no offence and I understand there meaning I just happen to dislike these inaccuracies perhaps I'm just too hypercritival.

Maybe I should join the Pedantic Society.....correction the Society of Pedantics

It's ok, I'm not offended or anything. I was just pointing out Semitism as it's been explained to me, and I do see where your side of the discussion is coming from.

Now, in order for me to claim Ahlya, they look at the fathers side of the family and if you are jewish through that side.
Aliya: the right of Jews to return to Israel from whatever country they may be in, and to receive full Israeli citizenship almost immediately.

Things are changing...but presently Messianic Jews (those that know Jesus as Messiah) are not considered Jews with respect to aliya and so do not receive automatic citizenship in Israel. Swamper is correct in that jewishness is matrilinear. However, from a legal standpoint for aliya, things are more complicated. And if you are a Jewish believer, forget it. You enter Israel as a tourist or you apply for naturalization through regular channels because the aliya route is closed to you.
