God blessed Abraham, and his descendants. Abraham had Isaac, Isaac had Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel. The Jews were only one tribe of the descendants of Israel. All others were God's chosen ones also, the Benjamites, Reubenites, Gideonites, etc. Ask any Israelite who he is and he'll say "I'm an Israelite" not "I'm a Jew".
some things are better left unsaid, which i generally realize after i have said them

Lufia wrote:Hum i lied a little bit, i have read parts of the OT. I like some parts in it like psalms, Job, proverbs but for the others i found them violent. I have difficulty with God in OT. But i'm convince now, i have taught about it for a while and i 'll read it.
If you read just parts here & there, you won't understand the story in its entirety. Also, you won't understand how the different parts fit together. Make a point of reading through the OT; your life as a Christian will be enriched.

You are confused about the origins of the Israelite tribes. To make a long story short, each tribes' patriarch was one of Jacob's sons. Jacob - whose name was changed to Israel by God - had as children (as either direct father or grandfather) the 12 men from whom the tribes take their name. The tribes came after Jacob, not before.

This is not the place to discuss this. The title of this discussion is «Disasters,» and we are way off topic. If you wish to continue, start another discussion and I will participate.

If they had a social gospel in the days of the prodigal son, somebody would have given him a bed and a sandwich and he never would have gone home.

I agree that the disasters might be a sign of the end age too. The Bible and what we see on the news go hand in hand...there's no question for me that we are approaching an important mark in history.

Wow, the wild fires are coming round. I've never seen a smoke cloud this dense here before.

You wouldn't believe - it's getting like night time now. And it's raining ash. This picture was just taken, like at 1:45. (The pointsettia looks scraggly because it's between seasons, lol.)

Thanks! I think we should be fine here. But you never know. Some day, with the high winds and lack of firefighters (because the get too spread out), there could be much leap-frogging of sparks and burning debris, and the fires could spread to the less hilly areas. You should see the sun, how bright red-orange it is!

I am all with you as well.

Silly questions maybe, but does the smell comes with it? Does it make a difference in the quality of the air people breathe?

Take care. y@};-

Thanks BW and Zeb! Yes, the air quality is very bad. Even in the morning, before things really got going, it was bad; my son had about 10 minutes of his tennis lesson before they stopped. The winds are very very dry anyway, and then the smoke on top of it is quite irritating. My whole house smelled liked it was burning last night, and we're not even all that close to the actual fires. The closest area had to be at least five miles away, I think.

Yishshshsh. It can be very close depending on the wind force...

I double my prayers. ;o)
