Has anyone considered this? I think it would explain the contradictions in the Bible.
According to scientific findings - Mitochondrial Eve came long before Y-chromosomal Adam,, which is opposite to what the scripture says.. Could it be that someone way back then when society was pretty much all male-supremacist, edited that verse from God's original words - placing Adam as the first human? This is also suggested in verses that include women being suppressed - not being allowed to say anything in church, for example...

As far as «editing» the OT, even this would have been done under God's supervision and approved by Him. When Jesus was on earth, He made numerous references to the OT and never once did He say something to the effect of, «Yeah, but in Ezra 1:1 and 1:2 some editor added after the fact the name 'Cyrus' but I - even I - have difficulty finding good prophets!»
Jesus accepted the validity of the Bible and quoted from it and said that the Scriptures spoke of Him. Rest assured that the Old Testament has not been tampered with.

If they had a social gospel in the days of the prodigal son, somebody would have given him a bed and a sandwich and he never would have gone home.

I haven't read about this in a while, but it was my understanding that mitochondria can be traced back farther and that's why we have that data. It doesn't make any sense, otherwise. It's not like there was some early woman living and reproducing by herself. It's just a matter of the type of data available. It doesn't mean very much, really, and it doesn't have anything to do with how the bible was written.Anonymiss wrote: According to scientific findings - Mitochondrial Eve came long before Y-chromosomal Adam,, which is opposite to what the scripture says....

Did you factor in the fact that if a Biblical accounting is true, than the diversity in males would go back to Noah and his sons. Whereas in women the diversity in the wives taken would extend much further back to Eve.Anonymiss wrote:Has anyone considered this? I think it would explain the contradictions in the Bible.

What contradictions are you talking about?
Sure these vids are intended to promote atheism but nothing in them is made up.. yet elsewhere in the bible (can't remember the exact verse or what page - I've only read bits and pieces of the bible) - there are statements on how God and Jesus are very forgiving, all-loving and slow to anger... What these atheist videos point out don't add up with the aforementioned. I'm very perplexed on this.

Atheist videos teaching the Bible...hmmm.Anonymiss wrote: there are statements [in the Bible] on how God and Jesus are very forgiving, all-loving and slow to anger... What these atheist videos point out don't add up with the aforementioned. I'm very perplexed on this.
If you wanted to find out about the history of African Americans, would you document yourself with Ku Klux Klan material? If you wanted to find out about Jews and Judaism, would you take seriously what Neo-Nazis have to say? If your car breaks down, do you take it to the dentist?
Here is a problem:
Now for a radical idea: To understand the Bible, start by reading it!Anonymiss wrote: I've only read bits and pieces of the bible
You'll never understand the Bible by listening to what atheists have to say about it.

You are right, they are intended to promote Atheism, and I do not see the point of posting them here. Such arguments are really nothing new to me and I am sure others here.Anonymiss wrote:Sure these vids are intended to promote atheism but nothing in them is made up.. yet elsewhere in the bible (can't remember the exact verse or what page - I've only read bits and pieces of the bible) - there are statements on how God and Jesus are very forgiving, all-loving and slow to anger... If you want to take up the issues within them, or contradictions you have personally found rather than passing the buck, then I am sure others here would be willing to discuss each if you desire to do so.
