Daniel 4:10-11

Post by Daluzinal »

I seen this verse being quoted by atheist that it means the earth is flat.I can't seem to figure out to take that scripture literally or metaphorically.I also don't understand the verse as to what Daniel is talking about.Help will be appreciated :esmile:

10:The visions of my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw, and behold,
a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.

11:The tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven,
and it was visible to the end of the whole earth.

It is a dream. A vision. Keep in mind, it was the dream of a PAGAN king. All you have to do is read a few verses and Daniel gives the interpretation. Vese 22: "you, O king, are that tree! You have become great and strong; your greatness has grown until it reaches the sky, and your dominion extends to distant parts of the earth."

So, it would go to say that it is a metaphor. Nebuchadnezzar was the tree in his own vision.
It is pretty obvious that the statement is not intended to be a word from God declaring the shape of the earth.

In fact, being highly educated and a part of the wise men of Babylon, means there is a good chance that Daniel was already familiar with a lot of what we know today in modern astronomy. Including that the earth was round. The Babylonians were very into their astronomy and astrology. This is likely where the wise men came from during the birth of Christ.

The realities of flat earth thinking is not what many atheists would have you beleive.

I'm not trying to be a smarty pants. But did you take the time to simply investigate the entire passage?

Atheists love to take things out of context and then use them against Christians. The intentionaly take one verse and quote it and don't use the previous verse or the verse afterwards to show what it really means. That's just the way they are. And yes I came to the conclusion that it was a dream as well, but mind you it says nothing about the world being flat. The saying to the ends of the whole earth is only and expression. It means to the horizon, the farthest he could see.
Hope that helped! God bless!
