Christianity as a Teenager

Post by billybeejr »

Hey this is my first post on here. I am ensure of where this should go, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place. I am a 15 year old male. I have been a Christian for about 5 months now. It seems to me like a lot of the things other people do my faith prevents me from doing, such as intimate contact with women, doing drugs, etc. Do you guys have any ips for getting through my adolescence with the absence of these sins? Or a place where I can talk to other Christian teenagers?

Hi billybeejr, and welcome! So you don't go to a church that has a youth group?

Many of the decisions you make now can have very significant consequences later in life:
  • Smoking may seem "cool" now, but it VERY soon becomes VERY uncool - AND is an EXTREMELY difficult habit to kick
  • Drugs may seem "cool" now, but can severely impede your desire or ability to pursue the career of your choice
  • Sex at your young age can lead to very unpleasant consequences - unplanned pregnancy, marriage too young, STDs, HIV, ...
Take it slow, savor your youth, believe me, you'll be an adult a LONG time. Become friends with the girls you know.

I know your hardship, I was in your possition once myself. (Not going to church and people pressureing me to do what they did) The fact is that they want you to do these things because they want to feel justifyed in what they do. They think "if this Christian boy does it then it's okay." Look, all I can say is try and keep God first and formost in your life. There is a thread on here with some very good advice from 2 very good women you should look at to help with female related issues. It's called "need some advice" in the Christian Chit-Chat area. One of my problems was adressed there. Like I said though just put God first and you can always come to us if you need to talk about anything in your life, weather on the board or via pm. Hang strong, let God be your rock, pray hard, have faith, and seek guidence from your elders. God be with you friend!
Once I was trapped in a perpetual night, without even a star to light the sky. Now I stand in the glory of the Son, and not even a faint shadow of darkness remains.

I can tell you that the choices you make at this time in your life will define it for years even decades to come. You don't just switch off sin addictions you pick up in adolesence. Choose carefully.

I liek wayne's advice on taking things slowly...this is often hard, but rushed decisions are very rarely ever good.

NOTHING GOOD EVER COMES FROM MAKING A DECISION AFTER 10PM!! AND IF YOU ARE WITH A GIRL....MAKE THAT 8PM :-)

THERE IS NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, WRONG WITH NEVER BEING ALONE WITH A GIRL. Always be in a public place. never be alone. And if ever there is a girl who says there is, stay away from her!! If she tempts you with actions, then she is not looking at you for a relationship.

And while you should find a good group of teens to hang out with (find a good church with a good youth group) also look for a man that you admire to learn from .

How about this for a life's goal?
The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.

- John Walter Wayland
Good words...find a good man that shows these qualities and learn from him. Any bible-believing pastor would be overjoyed to have a new Christian come to him and ask how to be mentored.

Well I imagine that could be tough! It would be interesting to hear how you came to Christ. Have you seen this site? I just found it and thought you might want to check it out (Christian Teens dot Net): http://www.christianteens.net/. I'm not sure if Campus Crusade for Christ would be of any interest, but here's their url: http://www.ccci.org/. This site has a variety of things for people of all ages: http://www.christiananswers.net/. Here's another site for teens that is maintained by Christianity Today: http://www.christianitytoday.com/iyf/.

I now attend an Evangelical Free Church, and they have a great service that is more youth oriented called The Encounter. I don't know if they all have this, but you could check to see if there are any of these churches in your area: http://www.efca.org/

Let us know how you do! Or if you have any questions, of course. The Lord bless you.
