Re: Did Moses write the Torah?
I believe so. I was taught the JDEP hypothesis but never found it convincing. I see no reason to drop the more conservative understanding that Moses authored the Pentateuch which inline with what Christ also believed. Redaction is certainly interesting, but it seems quite subjective to each scholar how many authors there actually were, even my own lecturers. There is no consensus across the board.
In fact, you could probably take scholars who generally subscribe to the documentary hypothesis, and use them against each other to argue against whatever other author is proposed as writing a particular passage. This does not necessarily mean they are all wrong, but it does leave a lot to be desired if one chooses to place their faith in such a theory.
An article you might like to read which provides a good introduction to the issue: Did Moses Write the Pentateuch?

Re: Did Moses write the Torah?
I believe Moses wrote the Pentateuch as well although obviously there is the the last section of Deut that was written by someone else, probably Moses.
Much of the JEDP theory rests upon the assumption that the Pentateuch was written at a far later date than the events that took place and in some of the more convoluted versions of it ties the source to a later priesthood who created the pentateuch psuedopigraphally to support the fictional person of King David. At least that was the position until actual archealogical finds made references to David.
Literary criticism, particularly redaction has some limited value but as Kurieuo indicated it also has a tendency to create it's own results by assuming much more than is often present. It's somewhat parallel to the observation that when all you have in your tool box is a hammer, than everything else begins to look like a nail. The truth is that the observation of minuteua in much redactive criticism could be applied on this board, for instance, to look at a post I wrote 4 years ago and one I wrote today and the argument could be made that I wasn't the same person. (Come to think of it, I've been accused of that on occassion! )

Re: Did Moses write the Torah?
Isn't another big factor in the hypothesis perceived differences between how God is portrayed in different sources (Jahweh vs Elohim etc.)?Canuckster1127 wrote: Much of the JEDP theory rests upon the assumption that the Pentateuch was written at a far later date than the events that took place and in some of the more convoluted versions of it ties the source to a later priesthood who created the pentateuch psuedopigraphally to support the fictional person of King David.
