Question about archeological evidences of Biblical events...

Post by derrick09 »

Hey everyone I have a few questions concerning archeological evidences and how it relates to the case for Christian theism. I know that some apologetics sources say that there is all kinds of evidence confirming the people, places, and events of the Bible. Some give small but solid pieces of evidence like a manuscript here or a carving there that confirms a specific time period or a specific ruler that matches up with the Biblical account. And other apologetic sources give big evidences or claim big evidences such as Noah's ark sightings, or evidence for the ruins and the brimstone pieces of Sodom and Gomorrah or evidence of chariot wheels at the bottom of the Red sea. Now from what I've gathered thus far, the big evidences like the ones mentioned in the last sentence are somewhat questionable because of some of the people involved in the findings are to archeology what Kent Hovind is to creation science. So what I"m asking is, what kind of archeological evidence do we have (from credible sources) either for or against events like Sodom and Gomorrah, or the Red Sea crossing? I kinda want to skip Noah's flood (for now) since we all know that the sightings of Noah's flood are a big confusing mess at the moment, so for the sake of this thread, I want to just stick to Sodom and Gomorrah and the Red sea crossing. From what you all know, is there good archeological evidence for these events? If not, are there at the very least any ancient manuscripts or tablets that talk about these events which date to within the time period of the events? I want to focus on the validly or lack thereof of Old Testament events like these, since these were big supernatural events that have the possibility of leaving something behind that could be studied today. And if that something has been found and confirmed, this could serve as a good argument for the validity of the God of the Bible and consequently, for the case for Christian Theism. Anyway, let me know your thoughts, thank you for your time and God bless.

Hey Gman, thanks for the links, I was looking over a few of them, but as of now, I can't find anything on Sodom and Gomorrah or on the Red Sea parting. I was wondering, what do you think of the claims of some archeologists that think they have found the remains of Sodom and Gomorrah and remains of the Egyptian army at the bottom of the Red Sea? Do you think those findings are authentic or have they been refuted by mainstream archeology? Thanks and God bless.

I like Biblical Archeology Review (BAR) for those studies.

Also ABR is good but tends to sway in YEC beliefs.
