Wonders of the Universe.

Post by Silvertusk »

Watch this again last night on BBC 2 with Brian Cox. Very good. It was how all the elements was made in stars. And how the elements that make up us was created in the dying stages of red supergiants. One particular one went supernova and created out entire solar system. However what got to me right at the end was that Brian said that since we were created as part of the universe, life also originated from there as well. He showed a slice of a metorite that had amino acids in it - which obviously are the building blocks of life. So does that explain where life came from? Were these amino acids created in the dying stages of stars?

Any comments on this?

Hey there, here is another thread that was done not too long ago that may give more insight into that

Also there was a podcast done by rtb a couple weeks back on this...

And here is a article by Rich Deem on this.

Thanks for those.

These address the issues of bacterial life on meteorites - but what about amino acids as this program states?

Let's see now that I may not know of anything at this moment. You could try to ask RTB about it. Their e-mail address is ask@reasons.org

Also if this has anything to do with the Murchison meteorite if you go to reasons.org and put that into the search box you will get all kinds of articles that talk about it. Here is one of them,

http://www.reasons.org/search-reservoir ... locks-life

Also if you do the same on the search box of God and Science you get a lot from Rich Deem as well. He also wrote quite a bit on this meteorite to be exact, and he does talk about the amino acids. Let me know if these things help any.

Did the program say that amino acids themselves formed directly in the supernova? That would be just silly and false. :P
I don't think biologists or chemists would say that it's even remotely possible.

However if they said that the basic elements that would much much later make up amino acids and life first formed in the supernova, then they might be on to something.

He stated that all the elements of the periodic table are made in the cores of stars and the heavier ones in the bigger stars in their dying stages. This I quite agree with and to me shows more amazing design.
