jonah and the whale
This story strikes me as the most odd in the bible so i have a few questions on it.
1)How did jonah survive without food or water for 3 days?
2)wouldnt the stomach acid of the whale kill him?

Re: Genisis, Symbol or literal
It can be interpreted literally and still be "realistic", as atheists would put it. As for the snake, Satan comes in many forms, hallucination, visions, little lies in your head, and even animals... besides, most of Genesis is literal, such as lineages from Adam to Noah and down to Abraham. I guess it depends on your opinion, but Jesus also referred to Adam as a real man. As for direct verses about lack of miracles, I don't know. There are certainly still lots of "miracles" in the world that most people dismiss or are faked, but some are likely real. They just aren't as "monumental" because this isn't a big time or key event in history, God only does "miracles" in these times when it is crucial.

Which, if you look at the entire Bible, is even the case there, such as after the Jews conquered Palestine God's miracles slowed down until it turned to wickedness again later on, then they slowed down again till Jesus, and they have slowed down now.

First things first, what are you defining as "literal?"

Re: Genisis, Symbol or literal
From what bible are you getting this? I can't see how you got this from Genesis. Is there a foreign language bible with talking trees? Please reference bible verses so we can see how you came up with talking trees.Murray wrote:like the tree actually talked and the snake actually told them to eat from the actual talking tree.
John 5:24

You need to go back and reread then. There's no talking tree.

Re: jonah and the whale
Jonah 1:17 (KJV) Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
I don't believe it was a whale. It may be described as a whale from the Greek work 'ketos' in Matt 12:40, but it was simply some kind of great fish.
Jonah survived because God wanted him to survive, so he would go to Ninevah and preach against it.

There are two types of people in our world: those who believe in Christ and those who will.
If Christianity is a man-made religion, then why is its doctrine vehemently against all of man's desires?
Every one that is of the truth hears my voice. Jesus from John 18:37

Re: jonah and the whale
How did this thread get changed from the serpent and a talking tree to Jonah? The op was edited, and all the answers to the op make no sense now. I thought we couldn't edit a post after someone replies to it. This thread is a confusing mess now.

Re: jonah and the whale
I understand why you edited the op. You were embarrassed that you didnt actually read the bible verses about the fall of man, before you posted a question about it. We all post things we didn't really think through first. My problem is with the site allowing anyone to change posts after answers were given to the op. This opens up a possibility to manipulate someones posts.Murray wrote:I didn't feel like taking up more space on the forum so I just changed it.

Re: jonah and the whale
It is confusing to change an OP after someone has responded to it.
Please don't do it again so we avoid this type of confusion. I am locking this thread for that reason. Feel free to repost and start another thread if you want but please don't alter posts significantly (e.g. completely change the subject) again.
Thanks,
bart
