What is it with this term?
I'm not casting any doubt on the quality of science being applied by “creation scientists,” but why the qualifier?
Is it reactionary?

It's a specific term to, yes, label someone as specifically endorsing a view on the origins.

It's honest. It states one's presuppositions up front as to what lens evidence is being viewed through.
