It's an inference warranted from both extensive anecdotal experience (including both my personal interaction with literally hundreds of atheists as well as reading more pages than I would care to count from formally and informally published atheists) and cultural significance of the so-called new atheists.

How would you know it's not?

edit:

But I don appreciate the question. It tracks the right line of thought, rather than just dismissing the type as a whole.
I gotta get back to work.

But quickly..

I suppose its a bit like if my experience with Christians were limited to first the missionaries I ran across in HK, and then the people who show up at more door with pamphlets, or stand in the square at the University and preach away to nobody.

My opinion is that the great majority of Christians and atheists just go quietly about their lives and do not draw attention to themselves.

In my many years of being a 'born-again' believer -- usually a pastor or youth pastor of a church are encouraging us To share the Gospel of salvation with whom ever is willing to listen --it's called life-style evangelism. If believers can go about their lives and Not draw attention to themselves -- meaning that their lives are no different - in a Positive way -- than anyone elses' then I'd dare say that something is amiss with their lives. Unless that person is part of a larger Christian community where everyone believes the same way. But -- at least in These times -- young people go off to college -- people change jobs -- retire and such -- we Are going to be living around those who believe differently than we do. So Then we Can and Should get to know our neighbors and invite them to the Bible study we go to. And chances Are they will observe our drinking Pepsi instead of alcoholic beverages so that we are Not getting drunk and disorderly / Not doing drugs / Not telling the off-color jokes / that we Are treating our spouses and kids with love and respect.

And -- there are those who Used to do door-to-door evangelism -- inviting people to church activities -- and Bible college students who would preach in the square on college / university campuses with the intent of reaching the student body and teachers as they go about their daily routine. Unfortunately it's dangerous to do that these days. But there Is an organization -- Campus Bible Fellowship that Is active these days. They reach lots of students with the Gospel.

So -- If believers are Not concerned with the fact that people Are going to end up in Christless eternity Forever -- We need to get Our act together -- our lives Should be different in a positive way that will attract other's To God.
You feel Christians should wear their religion as a badge of honor, and call attention.

If a person actually believes in their religion, they can hardly do otherwise.

The supposed reality of it all is, after all, the central concept in life, the whole universe.

To an atheist who, like the vast majority, doesnt choose to write books, file lawsuits etc,
it is just not any more significant than not believing in flying saucers.

Atheism is not like "god" vs "devil" sort of countrrpart. It is like being a spectator to people going wild over a football victory, who like me didnt know or care that there was even a game going on.

You guys carry on as you like. It is important to you, not to me. "Militantly" not caring is too silly.

Maybe not you so much, but I've seen and read many an Atheist book, and there are a plethora of YouTube channels.

Perhaps you're confusing lay Atheist with active Christians. There are much higher percentage of lay Christians than active. Those who'd just attend a Sunday service and then remain quiet and say nothing further of their beliefs during the week.

Then there are active Atheists. I'd call you active online, ie., you're here. But, then you're not the one to write a book about it, or start a YouTube channel. You simply active here, in giving Christians a ribbing while more or less putting forward your views. In real life, I expect you'd be more carefree.

So perhaps it's not so much any one group who is more active (i.e., "badge of honourish") than the other. Rather, it is more whether or not one is passionate about their beliefs or lack thereof in opposition to Christians or religion in general.

As for me, I don't wear it as a badge, my own Christianity is part of me.

Our Christianity Should be part of us. An Active part of us.

I've actually not run across anyone but Christians who do that.

That would be very confused.

I dont especially do "carefree" but outside of here, I have nothing to say about atheism. Its just not a topic, any more than nonfootballfanism is a topic.

At a football-crazy university while and undergrad, it sometimes was a topic.

"Badge of honour" is for people who dont know who or what they are, and
try to put on identity like a badge.
As for me, I don't wear it as a badge, my own Christianity is part of me.
I should think! My view of reality shapes how I act, too.

Audie -- has it occurred to you that there IS a heaven / hell in Everyone's future?

More or less the same way you respond to Mormon stories, I suppose.

The Truth about heaven and hell / how to get to heaven and stay out of hell is based Only on God's Word and Not on extra-Biblical information.

In other wards I don't believe in Mormonism and you don't believe in Christianity. That Christianity can 'say' anything it wants to -- that you really don't care.

But -- since God's Word Does tell mankind that there IS a heaven and a hell -- and that it lasts for Ever -- wouldn't That be worth the time to consider Personally?

I know this is what you think. I dont.

So you're okay with taking a chance that your eternal life will consist of ending up in Hell.

She probably equates the chance of Hell existing and her ending up there with, well, apparently being of lesser odds than a physical universe popping into to existence, where nothing previously physical existed, immediately, with awesome design and insanely specific functionality, and then (still) blindly/randomly "finding" a way to make non-life elements become life - whereas the simplest cell is massively complex and in no way could have simply evolved. So, yeah, she apparently views the mathematical chances of Hell existing as the equivalent of NO chance. But by her measures, by whatever probability she considers as ZERO chance/no probability of something - there's apparently not even an exponential number that exists, so as to assign to it - given how the astronomically remote are the probabilities she thinks as to how it has been possible for the universe and life to exist without a Creator, or at least without some eternal and immensely intelligent source of unfathomable power. Other than that - WHAT???!!!

Are you ok taking a chance that the moslems are right? This is what they say will become of you for exposing your hair in public.

You apparently are ok with making up something for me to think and stating various other facts not in evidence.
