It probably only took the wise men a couple months or so to travel from Persia to Judea to find the Christ Child.
The word that is translated "star" from the Gospels was also a term used to astrologers to denote a significent celestial event , thus given further credence to theory it was a conjuction of planets.

Actually it took about 2 years. That's why king Herod had all the male children 2 and under killed.

Herod had male children 2 and under killed because he was a paranoid nut (he also killed 2 of his wives and children). I don't know about 2 years, more likely somewhere between 3 and 6 months. I will look up the approximate distance from Persia to Jerusalem and post some estimates.

One question, though. Why is it called a "Christmas star", since it didn't appear when He was born? Or did it appear when He was born, but it simply took the wise men 2 years to find Him?
I think it appeared at His birth and it took the wise men two years to get there.

Now wait a minute, Gman. I was not referring to our most lovely moderator by the same name.
Judah, do you see what a troublemaker your fellow moderator is?

hi all,
i just became a member of this forum,
and am pleased to be here.
i found some very interesting things about the star of bethlehem
and science is very much on the way to prove the bible to have
all the science hidden within.they are pointing towards the universe
being a thorus, this thorus is based on the star of bethlehem. even the
labyrinth as shown in some churches turn out to be based on and hiding
the very same structure. it is a joining of the 6 and 5 pointed star that
creates the golden ratio which in turn creates the shape of the eight
the sign of eternity. the math is perfect in line with all the known cycles
when it spins it makes the thorus that scientists are looking at to explain
the micro and macro world.
the site i found all this beautiful proof of God is truth-revelations.com

Welcome to the forum moshiya. I'm not sure if I understand what you are saying. Could you please elaborate more? I'm pretty convinced that the 12 constellations spell out the gospel written in the heavens, but I'm not sure about this labyrinth.
Thank you.

This was another remarkable event, since the magi considered Jupiter the kingly planet and regarded Regulus as the “king star.”
"The crowning touch came on June 17, when Jupiter seemed to approach so close to Venus that, without binoculars, they would have looked like a single star over Bethlehem, (hence the Christmas star)."
Here is a good presentation of it from the astronomer "John Mosley" at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. Enjoy.. And merry Christmas..
