I can see that the two can't be separated. I guess I'm asking a 'when' question. Before Jesus people couldn't accept him as their saviour, and since Jesus everyone and anyone can. But I'm unlcear whether Christians believe people could accept Jesus as their personal saviour during his lifetime but before the crucifiction.
For example, The twelve apostles have testimony (note Matthew 16:16) but more than the 12 apostles, I would say it was the women that truly believed…

John 19:25, “but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.”

They stood by Christ all the way and did not flee when the men did! First to the tomb and bore the first message of the risen Lord…by which many belived!! Think on it a bit...

John 20:17-18 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"--and that he had said these things to her. “

I am note sure this answers your questions but Zoe should give us a good shout of :amen: to this!

The women shown by their actions they indeed believed!
