I agree with you here, Byblos. You have to look at what Jesus said in the letters to the churches in Revelation. So, Jesus is not a liar.
There has been said decades ago that the church would eventually die off and be forgotten. But when the church gets pursecuted, it grows larger. China and Indonisia are good examples of that.
