August is right, faith throughout the Bible was based on some kind of evidence.

John said that his whole gospel was meant to be evidence (John 20:30-31). Paul in 1 Cor. 15:3-8 list over 500 eyewitnesses to the risen Jesus and in verse 6, practically said go check it out.

Every believer believes, at least in part, because the New Testament was written by eyewitnesses or their close companions. If the NT were written by people in the second century, we would have a hard time believing it to be true. So, the NT is itself evidence.
