Ok, let me get this straight and you all can correct me if I'm wrong here. Based on what I've read here and elsewhere, Hawking believes as follows...

1. Before there were any universes, time, space, matter, anything there was either quantum particles, quantum foam, or even a quantum vacuum. And this quantum stuff had NO BEGINNING, I.E. it has been here since eternity past and may or may not be here for eternity future.

2. Random activity from this quantum stuff brings forth either OUR universe or it spits out multiple universes. (hence the multiverse theory)

Ok, as far as I know this is the best quick accurate representation of what Hawking believes. Am I correct on this? Also as you would expect, I think this is complete science fiction since like you all, I haven't seen a shred of physical evidence for any of this stuff.

From what I remember Hawking says the universe doesn't need God to create it because it can create itself spontaneously due to the law of gravity. How can a law of gravity exist without the universe having already been created or why there is a law of gravity to begin with are too trivial a philosophical idea for him to entertain  .

well many scientists believe that gravity comes from another dimension and that's why it's so weak compared to the other forces.

What??? Gravity coming from another dimension? Again, I thought this stuff was science not science fiction. If that is the case where did this other dimension come from? What are it's laws? And what resides there? I assume this is where the multiverse theory kicks in right?

I'm not sure, I was just watching a show on the science channel and a scientist was on saying that's the only thing that works mathematically to explain the weakness of gravity compared to other forces. Maybe it is an arguement for the multiverse. It is an interesting idea though.

Theories which attempt to unite gravity with the other forces often include more than the standard three of four dimensions. Whilst I've never heard the notion that gravity is from an other dimension the idea that a satisfactory theory of gravity may include far more dimensions than we currently acknowledge is not all that new.

Not to mention, just how in the world can mere GRAVITY create space, time and MATTER? I mean gravity is not necessarily nothing (ie philosophical nothing, no thing, what rocks dream about) but it's almost just as much "nothing" as nothing. I mean, it has no creative power or at least I've never seen instances or experiments where a mere physical law or which contains no matter or mind within it to be able to create matter and to decide to create matter. So needless to say, from my vantage point at least, gravity in and of itself does not have the power and creativity to be the ultimate source of the universe.

no, god does exist, even if I hadn't experienced it, circular reasoning would have led me to that conclusion, well maybe not, I'm pretty skeptical.

Huh? I saw on your profile that you are not a Christian perse, but you hold to THEISTIC evolution. I assume then, you are a deist right? Like the late Anthony Flew?

yes I believe in god with all my spirit, God's implanted in my being. I don't think that god created the physical world but God definetly created the spirtual world which leads to the inspiration to create the physical world.

I like deism, I don't think god is very involved with the world, perhaps we just experience it subjectively. God created natural law through it's precepts and left the rest to Satan.
