"Is new atheism finally starting to go backwards?"
"Finally"?
"Finally"?
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." (Psalm 19:1)

I understand. I often get tempted to use un-Christian "debating" methods (you know what I mean ), but I must control myself due to the nature of the cause I'm defending. I suggest not spending too much energy on such individuals - I know how emotionally tiring it may be as you'll hardly convince them, I'd rather focus on those who are open-minded enough to listen to our arguments. Still, a proper response is definitely in order.StMonicaGuideMe wrote:oh, sarcasm. I love how beautifully you use it as a tool.
My dear friend, I have not yet responded to him, because at times I must distance myself so I don't respond in a manner that is un-Christian (and to confer with the true intellectuals, such as yourself )
Good for you for your efforts. You are an honorable man to not lower the bar for yourself, despite the very natural angry inclinations we get. But, you are being the better man and a true Christian by your efforts and God will grant you grace for your desire to please Him in this way. I do have a degree, but it's quite a social science degree, so I unfortunately am not "academically" qualified to speak to many of the things I do. But I'd like to hope that I can formulate adequate arguments from time to timeReactionary wrote:I understand. By the way, I still lack a degree to become a "true" intellectual, so at the moment I'm working hard to earn one.
Indeed. I think it was C.S. Lewis (though it may have been Chesterton) who said that the danger of atheism isnt that one will believe in nothing, it's that one will believe in anything.Silvertusk wrote:New atheism is a dying fad certainly - but that is not the main danger I think- Secularism is. An apathy of people who don't give religion a second thought. People just don't seem to care about it - and have a very superficial understanding of Christianity. It is seen in this country as a quaint feature of the past that is not relevant now. Political correctness has gone mad and other religions are getting more focus than Christianity just so we can be seen as a tolerant nation. This is where the real danger is. Not new atheism - just apathy and secularism
Pretty sure that one is Chesterton. The Protector wrote:Indeed. I think it was C.S. Heheh, there's a similar quote that goes around, but this one is attributed to Bishop Fulton Sheen.
